Who AI assistants recommend for aluminum wiring replacement
We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for aluminum wiring replacement recommendations 294 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician’s page before naming it for aluminum wiring.
The short answer
Before naming an electrician for aluminum wiring, assistants looked for proof the company does this work at all. Then they wanted to know whether it recommends a full copper rewire or approved connector repair, which connectors it uses, whether every connection is covered, and what paperwork the homeowner's insurer will receive.

What people actually asked
We asked for aluminum wiring replacement in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 294 answers it produced between September 4 and October 14, 2026:
- “Aluminum wiring replacement near me — I'm in 33772. Who do you recommend?”111 answers
- “Who should I call for aluminum wiring replacement in St. Petersburg, FL 33713?”96 answers
- “I'm looking to get aluminum wiring replacement done in Dunedin, FL 34698 in two weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”87 answers, asked with five different timings: in the next few weeks, sometime this month, before the end of the month, in two weeks and next month
Together, the 294 answers covered 16 towns in Pinellas County: including Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor and Pinellas Park. Each town came up in 4 to 33 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 128, Claude 103 and Google AI Mode 63.
Customers also call it “aluminum wiring repair” or “aluminum-to-copper pigtailing”, so use those words on the page as well.
The question underneath all of them
“What will you inspect before proposing work on aluminum wiring?” Identifying the wiring and selecting a remedy are professional decisions that need a documented basis.
What your aluminum wiring replacement page has to explain
Many electricians mention rewiring or old wiring, but not aluminum. Assistants often found a licensed company and could not tell whether it had handled aluminum branch circuits before. Answers kept telling customers to ask directly. A page that names aluminum wiring, and describes one job with the condition found and the work agreed, settles that question.
The biggest choice is the method. A full copper rewire and a connector repair at each outlet and switch are very different jobs with very different prices. Assistants told customers to ask which one the electrician recommends and why, and to get both options in writing. The page should explain how the electrician inspects the home before choosing.
Insurance often starts this job. Answers said some Florida insurers want proof of repair from a licensed electrician, and that customers should ask the insurer which methods it accepts. The page should say what document the homeowner gets. It should also explain how wall access, the rooms affected and any patching are handled, since a rewire reaches into finished walls.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 294 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for aluminum wiring replacement, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
What will the insurer accept?
Assistants often said Florida insurers may refuse or limit coverage on homes with aluminum wiring. They told customers to ask the insurer which fix it accepts and to ask the electrician for a completion letter. Picking the wrong method could mean paying twice.
66% of the answers (193 of 294) brought this up.
Some Florida insurers require proof of remediation from a licensed electrician, so ask what they'll accept before you pick a method.
Full copper rewire or approved connector repair?
Assistants regularly told customers to ask whether the electrician recommends a full copper rewire or an approved repair at each connection. They said the two are different scopes and prices. Customers wanted both options in writing so they could compare.
52% of the answers (154 of 294) brought this up.
Ask each contractor for two written options: full copper rewire and approved remediation/pigtailing where permitted.
Has this electrician done aluminum wiring before?
Assistants often found electricians who listed panels or general rewiring but never mentioned aluminum. Reviews rarely mentioned it either. Those companies came with a note to ask whether they had done the work.
49% of the answers (143 of 294) brought this up.
Ask whether they've done aluminum wiring work before.
Will the work be permitted and inspected?
Many answers told customers to ask whether the electrician pulls permits and arranges an inspection. They said the quote should say who pulls the permit. An inspected job also gives the insurer something to check.
41% of the answers (121 of 294) brought this up.
Ask whether the quote includes the permit and inspection.
Which connectors do they use, and are installers trained?
Many answers named specific approved connector brands and crimp methods for the repair. Assistants told customers to ask which one the electrician uses and whether the installer is trained on it. Some said to ask for proof of training in the crimp method.
34% of the answers (100 of 294) brought this up.
Ask who installs them and whether they are trained on those connectors.
Does the scope cover every connection?
Assistants told customers to ask whether a quote treats every aluminum connection in the house, not only the outlets in view. Some suggested asking for a price per device so quotes could be compared fairly.
15% of the answers (45 of 294) brought this up.
Ask for a written scope that covers every aluminum connection, not just the outlets you can see.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 48 of the 294 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 48 of its 103, ChatGPT in 0 of its 128 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 63. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 32 answers
- Reviews it could check: 13 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 12 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 4 answers
Assistants most often could not find a phone number, and many could not confirm that any local company does aluminum work. A page that names the service, shows both repair options and gives a working number answers what they kept sending customers to ask.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 231 ChatGPT and Claude answers about aluminum wiring replacement, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 100% (231 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 40% (93 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 19% (44 answers)
- An official license lookup: 13% (30 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (2 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 79% of its 63 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For planned work like aluminum wiring replacement, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
Do I need to replace all my aluminum wiring?
Not always. Assistants said electricians offer a full copper rewire or an approved repair at each connection, and told customers to ask which one is recommended and why. A page should explain how the electrician inspects the home and decides.
What is aluminum wiring pigtailing?
Answers described it as joining short copper wires to the aluminum at each outlet and switch with approved connectors or crimps. They said it usually costs less than a rewire. A page should say which approved connectors the electrician uses and who installs them.
Will my insurer accept aluminum wiring repair?
Assistants told customers to ask the insurer which methods it accepts before choosing one. Some insurers want proof of repair from a licensed electrician. A page should say what documents the homeowner receives, without promising any insurer's decision.
Which AI assistants did you test?
ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 4 and October 14, 2026, they answered 294 questions about aluminum wiring replacement: ChatGPT 128, Claude 103, Google AI Mode 63.
Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?
No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.
How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 294 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 14, 2026. We asked for aluminum wiring replacement in 16 towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
