Who AI assistants recommend for bathroom remodel plumbing

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for bathroom remodel plumbing recommendations 243 times. Here is what they needed to see on a plumber's page before naming it for the plumbing in a bathroom remodel.

The short answer

They asked who pulls the permit and whether fixtures are being moved or kept in place. They also wanted to know what the quote covers and how the plumber works with other trades.

What people actually asked

We asked for bathroom remodel plumbing in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 243 answers it produced between September 7 and October 14, 2026:

  • “Bathroom remodel plumbing near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who do you recommend?”88 answers
  • “I'm looking to get bathroom remodel plumbing done in 33713 sometime this month. Who should I get quotes from?”78 answers, asked with five different timings: in two weeks, before the end of the month, in the next few weeks, sometime this month and next month
  • “Who should I call for bathroom remodel plumbing in 33772?”77 answers

Together, the 243 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Largo, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park and Seminole. Each town came up in 30 to 31 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 96, Claude 77 and Google AI Mode 70.

Customers also call it “bathroom rough-in plumbing”, “remodel plumbing” or “rough-in plumbing”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“Who coordinates the plumbing with the rest of the bathroom remodel?” Moving fixtures and reconnecting fixtures in place can require different scopes and schedules.

What your bathroom remodel plumbing page has to explain

Most plumbers that came up for this job listed repairs, drains and emergency calls. Their pages did not say whether they do remodel rough-in work. Assistants often told customers to call and ask, and set those plumbers apart from ones that clearly advertised remodels. A page that names bathroom remodel plumbing as a service, with a real project, answers that first question.

A remodel that keeps the layout is a different job from one that moves the toilet, shower or drains. Answers said moving lines usually needs a permit and changes the price a lot. Several assistants offered to help once the customer said which kind of remodel it was. The page has to explain both scopes and say how each is quoted and scheduled.

The plumber is one trade among several in a remodel. Assistants told customers to ask whether the plumber works with their tile, drywall and general contractor, or whether the homeowner manages that. Some customers wanted one company to run the whole job. The page should say who handles what, in which order, and how changes are approved.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 243 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for bathroom remodel plumbing, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Ask whether they handle the plumbing rough-in, permits, fixture installation, and inspections as part of the quote.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 32 of the 243 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 32 of its 77, ChatGPT in 0 of its 96 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 70. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 23 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 6 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 5 answers

Phone numbers were what assistants most often could not find for this job, and many could not confirm a plumber does remodels at all. A page that names remodel plumbing and shows a working number answers both.

I left out phone numbers because I couldn't confirm them from reliable sources.

— Claude, asked “Bathroom remodel plumbing near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who do you recommend?”, September 30, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 173 ChatGPT and Claude answers about bathroom remodel plumbing, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 99% (172 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 64% (111 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 10% (17 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 9% (16 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 1% (2 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 73% of its 70 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your bathroom remodel plumbing page checklist

  3. Say that you pull the plumbing permit, whether its cost is in the quote, and that you schedule the inspections.
  4. Explain how you quote a remodel that keeps the layout versus one that moves fixtures or drains.
  5. Say whether you work under a general contractor, alongside other trades, or run the whole remodel, and how the handoffs work.
  6. Say what your quote covers around the pipes, and how you price old pipe or hidden damage found after the walls are open.

  8. Put a working phone number and a way to request a remodel quote on the remodel page.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like bathroom remodel plumbing, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Do I need a permit for plumbing in a bathroom remodel?

Answers said moving drains, supply lines, the shower valve or the toilet usually needs a permit, and that the contractor should pull it. A remodel that only swaps fixtures in place may not. The page should say when a permit applies and that you handle it.

Should I hire a plumber or a remodeling contractor for a bathroom remodel?

Assistants named both. Customers who wanted one company to manage the whole job were pointed to remodeling firms. Others hired a plumber and asked whether it would work with their tile and general contractor. The page should say which way you work.

What does rough-in plumbing mean in a remodel?

Rough-in is the plumbing set inside the walls and floor before they are closed, such as drain lines, supply lines and the shower valve. It is inspected before tile and drywall go up. Fixtures are installed at the end. The page should say which stages you do.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 7 and October 14, 2026, they answered 243 questions about bathroom remodel plumbing: ChatGPT 96, Claude 77, Google AI Mode 70.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 243 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 7 and October 14, 2026. We asked for bathroom remodel plumbing in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
