Who AI assistants recommend for bathtub installation
We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for bathtub installation recommendations 272 times. Here is what they needed to see before naming a company to take out an old tub and install a new one.
The short answer
Before naming a company for bathtub installation, assistants wanted the quote's contents spelled out. They looked for removal and haul-away of the old tub, plumbing and drain changes, wall and tile repair, and the permit. They also asked whether a simple swap is quoted apart from a remodel.

What people actually asked
We asked for bathtub installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 272 answers it produced between September 4 and October 10, 2026:
- “Bathtub installation near me — I'm in Seminole, FL 33772. Who do you recommend?”96 answers
- “I'm looking to get bathtub installation done in 33713 in two weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”96 answers, asked with five different timings: in two weeks, sometime this month, in the next few weeks, before the end of the month and next month
- “Who should I call for bathtub installation in Pinellas Park, FL?”80 answers
Together, the 272 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs. Each town came up in 34 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 112, Claude 88 and Google AI Mode 72.
Customers also call it “bathtub replacement”, “tub repair” or “tub installation”, so use those words on the page as well.
The question underneath all of them
“What is included in removing and installing a bathtub?” Fixture supply, plumbing connections and surrounding finishes should not be left implicit.
What your bathtub installation page has to explain
Answers mixed plumbers, bath companies and full remodelers for the same question. Assistants told customers to say whether the job is a straight swap in the same spot or part of a larger remodel, since the price can differ a lot. A page should say whether the company takes tub-only jobs and how a simple replacement is quoted.
Removing a tub disturbs what is around it. Answers told customers to ask who repairs the walls, tile, drywall or subfloor, and whether waterproofing behind the surround is included. Some warned that rot found under the old tub changes the job. The page has to say where the plumbing work ends and who handles the finishes.
Assistants also asked about the tub itself. Answers said to confirm who supplies it, whether it is in stock and how long it takes to arrive. The fixture can hold up the job more than the labor. A page that names the tubs the company installs and its usual lead time answers that up front.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 272 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for bathtub installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Who repairs the walls, tile and floor?
Answers told customers to ask whether the price covers tile, drywall or subfloor repair, and waterproofing behind the surround. Customers wanted to know the bathroom would be finished, not left with open walls.
62% of the answers (169 of 272) brought this up.
Ask whether the price includes removing the old tub, plumbing changes and any wall or floor repair.
Is a simple tub swap quoted on its own?
Answers told customers to say whether they want the same size tub in the same spot or a different style. Assistants said plumbers can be cheaper for a like-for-like swap, while bath remodelers suit larger changes.
44% of the answers (120 of 272) brought this up.
Is taking out the old tub included?
Most answers told customers to ask whether the quote covers demolition, removal and haul-away of the old tub. Assistants treated this as the first line to check when comparing quotes.
42% of the answers (113 of 272) brought this up.
Ask each for proof of Florida licensing/insurance and confirm whether the quote includes removal/haul-away of the old tub.
Which plumbing changes are included?
Many answers told customers to ask whether the quote includes the drain, the valve and other plumbing changes. Some said remodeling companies may not do plumbing themselves, so customers should ask who does.
29% of the answers (79 of 272) brought this up.
Ask whether each one includes plumbing hookup, the drain, and any tile or wall repair.
Who pulls the permit?
Many answers told customers to ask whether the job needs a permit and who pulls it. Some said the county typically requires one for a tub replacement.
11% of the answers (30 of 272) brought this up.
Ask whether a permit is needed and who pulls it.
When will the tub arrive and the work start?
Customers often wanted the job done within weeks. Answers told them to ask for the earliest install date and how long the tub takes to arrive, since the fixture can be the real delay.
9% of the answers (24 of 272) brought this up.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 34 of the 272 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 34 of its 88, ChatGPT in 0 of its 112 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 72. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 29 answers
- Reviews it could check: 11 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 5 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 4 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 3 answers
Assistants most often could not find a phone number and sent customers to websites or estimate forms. Some found no local pricing at all, so a starting price on the page answers a question they could not.
I didn't find any local pricing, so I can't say what a fair price is.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 200 ChatGPT and Claude answers about bathtub installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 98% (197 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 68% (136 answers)
- An official license lookup: 7% (14 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 4% (9 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (1 answer)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 58% of its 72 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For planned work like bathtub installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
What is included in a bathtub replacement?
Answers told customers to check whether a quote covers removing the old tub and the new tub itself. They also listed drain and plumbing changes, waterproofing, wall or tile repair, and the permit. Quotes differ by company, so the page should list which items are included.
Should I hire a plumber or a bath remodeler to replace a tub?
Answers said a plumber can suit a straight swap in the same spot, while a bath remodeler suits a new surround or a bigger change. Assistants told customers to ask who does the plumbing, so the page should say exactly what the company handles.
How long does it take to get a new bathtub installed?
The answers did not give one timeline. Assistants told customers to ask for the earliest install date and how long the tub takes to arrive, since the fixture can delay the job. A page should state the company's usual lead time.
Which AI assistants did you test?
ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 4 and October 10, 2026, they answered 272 questions about bathtub installation: ChatGPT 112, Claude 88, Google AI Mode 72.
Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?
No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.
How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 272 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 10, 2026. We asked for bathtub installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
