Who AI assistants recommend for chandelier installation

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for chandelier installation recommendations 263 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician's page before naming it to hang a chandelier.

The short answer

Before naming anyone for a chandelier, assistants wanted to know the installer would check that the ceiling box can hold the fixture's weight. Then they looked for how high ceilings are reached, whether assembly is included, whether a licensed electrician does the work, and what dimmers or new wiring add.

What people actually asked

We asked for chandelier installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 263 answers it produced between September 6 and October 14, 2026:

  • “Chandelier installation near me — I'm in 33772. Who do you recommend?”96 answers
  • “Who should I call for chandelier installation in 33781?”87 answers
  • “Looking for someone to do chandelier installation in Dunedin, FL 34698 sometime this month. Any recommendations?”80 answers, asked with five different timings: next month, in the next few weeks, before the end of the month, sometime this month and in two weeks

Together, the 263 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor. Each town came up in 32 to 33 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 104, Claude 87 and Google AI Mode 72.

Customers also call it “chandelier hanging service” or “dining room chandelier install”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“What needs checking before this chandelier is installed?” The fixture, support, access and controls should be assessed before quoting a simple swap.

What your chandelier installation page has to explain

Weight was the point answers came back to most. A chandelier can be far heavier than the light it replaces, and a standard ceiling box may not be rated for it. Assistants told customers to give the fixture's weight and the ceiling height when they call, and to ask whether bracing or a new box is in the quote. A page that explains how the electrician checks and reinforces the mount answers that before the call.

Height and assembly change the job too. A two-story foyer or vaulted ceiling can need a tall ladder, a lift or scaffolding, and sometimes a second person. A crystal chandelier can arrive in many pieces and take hours to assemble. Answers told customers to ask whether those are included or cost extra. The page should say how both are handled and priced.

Assistants also noted that many people offering chandelier hanging are handymen, not licensed electricians. Few electricians name chandeliers on their pages, so answers often told customers to ask whether a company does them at all. A page that names the job, shows a finished install with its ceiling height and says who does the wiring separates the electrician from the rest.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 263 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for chandelier installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Will the ceiling box hold the chandelier's weight?

Most answers told customers to ask whether the installer checks that the ceiling box is rated for the chandelier. Assistants said heavy fixtures often need a reinforced box or a brace, and asked whether that is in the quote.

74% of the answers (194 of 263) brought this up.

Ask for a written quote and confirmation that the mounting can safely support the chandelier—not just the wiring.

— ChatGPT, asked “Looking for someone to do chandelier installation in Palm Harbor, FL next month. Any recommendations?”, October 8, 2026

Does the quote cover a dimmer or new wiring?

Some answers told customers to mention up front if they want a dimmer or if there is no fixture there now. Assistants asked whether the quote covers only hanging the fixture or also new wiring and a new box.

47% of the answers (123 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote covers hanging the fixture only or also any new wiring, a new ceiling box, or a dimmer.

— Claude, asked “Chandelier installation near me — I'm in 33772. Who do you recommend?”, September 30, 2026

How is a high ceiling or foyer reached?

Many answers raised tall foyers and vaulted ceilings. Assistants told customers to ask whether the installer brings the right ladder, lift or scaffold, whether a second person comes, and whether that costs more.

43% of the answers (114 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether they carry the right ladder/lift for your ceiling height and whether they can add a ceiling brace or junction box if your existing one isn't rated for the fixture's weight.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do chandelier installation in Clearwater, FL sometime this month. Any recommendations?”, September 24, 2026

Is a licensed electrician doing the work?

Answers often pointed out that many chandelier installers found online are handymen. Assistants told customers to ask about licensing, especially for heavy fixtures or new wiring.

39% of the answers (102 of 263) brought this up.

Many are handymen, not licensed electricians, so ask about licensing, especially for heavy fixtures or new wiring.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do chandelier installation in St. Petersburg, FL 33713 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”, October 8, 2026

Is assembly included?

Assistants often told customers to ask whether the installer assembles the chandelier. Some noted that crystal fixtures can arrive in pieces and take hours, and that some installers prefer a pre-assembled fixture.

21% of the answers (54 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote includes assembly, since crystal chandeliers can take hours.

— Claude, asked “Chandelier installation near me — I'm in Tarpon Springs, FL 34689. Who do you recommend?”, September 30, 2026

Is the old fixture removed and hauled away?

Some answers told customers to ask whether the quote covers taking down the old light and hauling it away, along with the packaging from the new one.

11% of the answers (28 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote includes a load-rated ceiling box/support, removal of the old fixture, and disposal.

— ChatGPT, asked “Chandelier installation near me — I'm in Largo, FL. Who do you recommend?”, September 30, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 35 of the 263 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 34 of its 87, ChatGPT in 1 of its 104 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 72. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 19 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 11 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 6 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 3 answers

Phone numbers were what assistants most often could not find for this job, followed by reviews of chandelier work. A page with a working number and reviews that mention a chandelier install answers what they kept telling customers to check.

The listing doesn't mention chandeliers specifically, so ask whether they do them.

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 191 ChatGPT and Claude answers about chandelier installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 97% (186 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 66% (127 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 21% (41 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 3% (6 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 2% (3 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 85% of its 72 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Can the customer reach a person?

Phone numbers were the thing assistants most often could not find for this job. Several left numbers out rather than guess.

19 of the 263 answers about chandelier installation, 18 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 147 of the 290 conversations where it came up.

What do recent customers say?

Assistants often found no reviews of chandelier work in particular. Some saw photos of chandeliers on a page but could not confirm the company did that job.

11 of the 263 answers about chandelier installation, 11 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 139 of the 569 conversations where it came up.

Do you serve the customer’s town or ZIP code?

Few local companies listed chandelier work, so assistants widened the search and often could not confirm a company served the customer's town.

6 of the 263 answers about chandelier installation, 6 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 350 of the 554 conversations where it came up.

Your chandelier installation page checklist

Work through this list on your chandelier installation page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “chandelier installation”, “chandelier hanging service” or “dining room chandelier install” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Say that you check the box rating for every chandelier, and how bracing or a new box is priced when needed.
  3. Describe a straight swap and a new location separately, and say how a dimmer is priced.
  4. Say the tallest ceilings you work on, what equipment you bring, and how high-ceiling work is priced.
  5. State that a licensed electrician does the install and wiring, not only the hanging.
  6. Say whether you assemble chandeliers, including crystal ones, and whether assembly is priced separately.
  7. Say whether removal and disposal of the old fixture and packaging are part of the job.
  8. Put a working phone number and a quote form that asks for the fixture's weight and ceiling height on the chandelier page.
  9. Link to recent reviews and show your own chandelier installs, with the ceiling height and fixture noted.
  10. List the towns and ZIP codes where you hang chandeliers.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like chandelier installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Does a heavy chandelier need a special ceiling box?

Answers said a heavy chandelier often needs a box rated for its weight, and sometimes a brace in the ceiling. Assistants told customers to give the fixture's weight when they call. The page should explain how the electrician checks the box and what reinforcement costs.

Can a handyman install a chandelier, or do I need an electrician?

Answers noted that many handymen offer chandelier hanging, and told customers to ask about licensing, especially for heavy fixtures or new wiring. The page should say plainly that a licensed electrician does the work and show the license.

How much does it cost to install a chandelier on a high ceiling?

Answers rarely found a price. They said high ceilings can need a lift, scaffold or second person, and that heavy fixtures and assembly add time. The page should give a starting price and say how ceiling height changes it.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 6 and October 14, 2026, they answered 263 questions about chandelier installation: ChatGPT 104, Claude 87, Google AI Mode 72.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 263 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 6 and October 14, 2026. We asked for chandelier installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
