Who AI assistants recommend for circuit breaker repair

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for circuit breaker repair recommendations 254 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician's page before naming it for a breaker that keeps tripping.

The short answer

Before naming an electrician for breaker repair, assistants wanted to know who could actually come and when. Then they looked for how the company handles urgent signs, whether it finds the real cause before replacing anything, and what the diagnostic and after-hours fees are.

What people actually asked

We asked for circuit breaker repair in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 254 answers it produced between September 4 and October 14, 2026:

  • “Circuit breaker repair near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who do you recommend?”87 answers
  • “I need circuit breaker repair first thing tomorrow — I'm in Clearwater, FL 33755. Who can actually come out?”87 answers, asked with five different timings: within the next few hours, first thing tomorrow, today, tomorrow morning and tonight
  • “Who should I call for circuit breaker repair in Tarpon Springs, FL?”80 answers

Together, the 254 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater and Largo. Each town came up in 31 to 32 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 112, Claude 87 and Google AI Mode 55.

Customers also call it “breaker tripping repair” or “faulty breaker fix”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“Are you investigating the breaker itself or a problem elsewhere on the circuit?” Explain diagnostic work accurately rather than implying every breaker can or should be repaired.

What your circuit breaker repair page has to explain

Breaker trouble usually feels urgent, so the first question was timing. Customers asked who could come today, tonight or first thing tomorrow. Assistants could rarely confirm any electrician had a truck free, and kept telling customers to call and ask for an arrival window. A page that says how same-day and after-hours calls work, and when they are answered, gives assistants something to pass on.

Many answers described signs that move a call to the front of the line, such as a burning smell, scorch marks or a hot breaker. They told customers to mention those signs when they call. The page should say how the company treats an urgent call, without giving the customer repair advice.

Answers also warned that a breaker problem can turn into a panel problem. Customers were told to ask whether the issue is one bad breaker or an aging panel, and whether the visit covers finding the cause. A page that explains how the electrician diagnoses first and gets approval before larger work answers that worry. A real example, from symptom to final fix, shows it.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 254 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for circuit breaker repair, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

How does the company handle a call that cannot wait?

Most answers mentioned warning signs such as a burning smell, scorch marks or a hot breaker. Assistants told customers to say so when they call, because many companies move those calls ahead of routine ones.

73% of the answers (186 of 254) brought this up.

Is it one bad breaker or a panel problem?

Answers warned that a simple breaker swap can turn into a panel replacement, and prices differ widely. Assistants told customers to ask whether the electrician finds the cause before quoting larger work.

36% of the answers (91 of 254) brought this up.

Ask whether the problem is just a bad breaker or an aging panel that needs replacing.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for circuit breaker repair in Dunedin, FL 34698?”, October 1, 2026

Are nights and weekends covered, and at what rate?

Many customers needed help at night or on a weekend. Assistants found that listings rarely said whether after-hours service was real, and told customers to ask about the after-hours rate.

24% of the answers (60 of 254) brought this up.

Ask whether they'll send someone Sunday morning and what the weekend or after-hours rate is.

— Claude, asked “I need circuit breaker repair tomorrow morning — I'm in St. Petersburg, FL. Who can actually come out?”, October 10, 2026

What is the diagnostic fee, and is it applied to the repair?

Many answers told customers to ask what the visit itself costs before agreeing. They also asked whether that fee is separate or credited when the customer approves the repair.

22% of the answers (57 of 254) brought this up.

Ask whether there's a diagnostic or after-hours fee, and whether it's waived if you approve the repair.

— Claude, asked “I need circuit breaker repair within the next few hours — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who can actually come out?”, September 19, 2026

When can someone actually get there?

Assistants regularly could not confirm that any company could reach the customer today. Many told customers to ask for a firm arrival window, not just a promise of same day.

17% of the answers (43 of 254) brought this up.

Ask for a firm arrival window and whether there's a dispatch or trip fee.

— Claude, asked “I need circuit breaker repair within the next few hours — I'm in Clearwater, FL 33755. Who can actually come out?”, September 19, 2026

Does the work need a permit, and who pulls it?

Some answers told customers to ask whether the repair needs a permit and who will pull it. They tied this mostly to panel work rather than a single breaker swap.

7% of the answers (17 of 254) brought this up.

Ask whether a permit is needed and who will pull it.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 39 of the 254 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 39 of its 87, ChatGPT in 0 of its 112 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 55. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 24 answers
  • When the company could do the work: 10 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 6 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 4 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers

Phone numbers and same-day openings were what assistants most often could not confirm for this job. A page with a working number, real hours and how urgent calls are handled answers what they kept sending customers to find out.

I only have their websites to go on, so I can't confirm who has a truck free today.

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 199 ChatGPT and Claude answers about circuit breaker repair, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 98% (196 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 44% (87 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 6% (11 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 5% (9 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 4% (7 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 85% of its 55 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

The checks behind every recommendation, applied to circuit breaker repair

Can the customer reach a person?

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like circuit breaker repair, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

Answers said a breaker that keeps tripping can point to an overloaded circuit, a wiring fault or a failing breaker. Assistants told customers to have a licensed electrician find the cause. The page should explain how the electrician diagnoses the problem before recommending any replacement.

Can a circuit breaker be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

Answers mostly described a faulty breaker being replaced, and sometimes the whole panel. They told customers to ask which one the problem needs before approving work. A page that explains how the electrician decides, and shows a real example, sets honest expectations.

How fast can an electrician come out for a breaker problem?

Assistants rarely could confirm same-day openings and told customers to ask for an arrival window. Many said to mention warning signs, such as a burning smell, when calling. The page should say how soon the company can usually arrive and whether it answers at night.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 254 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 14, 2026. We asked for circuit breaker repair in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
