Who AI assistants recommend for dehumidifier installation

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for dehumidifier installation recommendations 263 times. Here is what they needed to see on a heating and cooling company's page before naming it for a whole-home dehumidifier.

The short answer

Before naming a company for a dehumidifier installation, assistants looked for proof it installs whole-home units, not only portable ones. Then they wanted to know whether the unit ties into the ductwork, where the water drains, how it is sized, and whether the company checks the AC first.

What people actually asked

We asked for dehumidifier installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 263 answers it produced between September 4 and October 14, 2026:

  • “Looking for someone to do dehumidifier installation in 33755 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”96 answers, asked with five different timings: before the end of the month, next month, in two weeks, sometime this month and in the next few weeks
  • “Who should I call for dehumidifier installation in Dunedin, FL 34698?”87 answers
  • “Dehumidifier installation near me — I'm in Largo, FL 33770. Who do you recommend?”80 answers

Together, the 263 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs and Pinellas Park. Each town came up in 32 to 33 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 112, Claude 79 and Google AI Mode 72.

Customers also call it “whole-house dehumidifier installation” or “whole-home dehumidifier”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“What is included in a whole-home dehumidifier installation?” Describe the proposed equipment, connection and drainage scope without assuming the cause of excess moisture.

What your dehumidifier installation page has to explain

Most answers treated this as a connected job, not a box set in a corner. A whole-home dehumidifier ties into the ductwork, needs its own drain and power, and works alongside the air conditioner. Assistants told customers to ask about each of these. A page that explains the connection, drainage and electrical work the company does shows what the customer is actually buying.

Answers were also careful not to assume why a home is damp. Many told customers to ask whether the company would measure indoor humidity, check whether the AC is oversized, or look for duct leaks before recommending equipment. A page should describe how the company assesses the home and the planned drain route, without promising that a dehumidifier will fix a cause no one has checked.

Several answers warned about directory sites that copy the same page across many towns and hand the job to someone else. Assistants preferred a real local company that clearly installs these units. A completed installation, with a plain account of the work done and where the unit drains, separates a genuine installer from a lead site.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 263 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for dehumidifier installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Does the unit tie into the ductwork or stand alone?

Many answers told customers to ask whether the dehumidifier connects to the existing ductwork or runs as a standalone unit. They pointed customers away from portable units when the goal was the whole home. The setup changes the cost and the work.

59% of the answers (154 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether it ties into your existing ductwork or runs standalone.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dehumidifier installation in Clearwater, FL 33755?”, September 30, 2026

Where does the water drain?

Assistants often told customers to ask where the condensate drains and whether the unit drains by gravity or needs a pump. An answer warned that the drain and electrical work are where installs most often go wrong. The drain plan was a deciding part of the quote.

41% of the answers (108 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether the unit will drain by gravity or needs a pump, and what the warranty covers.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do dehumidifier installation in Clearwater, FL before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”, October 9, 2026

How is the unit sized for the home?

Answers told customers to ask how the company sizes the unit, by square footage and humidity load, rather than guessing. Some warned against anyone who quotes without asking about the home. Sizing was a common line in the quotes they described.

38% of the answers (99 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether they size the unit to your home's square footage and humidity load.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dehumidifier installation in Clearwater, FL 33755?”, September 30, 2026

Does the company install whole-home dehumidifiers?

Assistants regularly found HVAC companies whose pages covered AC installs but did not mention dehumidifiers. They told customers to ask before booking. Some listings turned out to be for humidifiers instead.

21% of the answers (55 of 263) brought this up.

None of these pages mention dehumidifiers specifically, so ask whether they install whole-home units.

— Claude, asked “Dehumidifier installation near me — I'm in Pinellas Park, FL. Who do you recommend?”, October 8, 2026

Does the quote include power, controls and the permit?

Answers told customers to get a written quote covering electrical work, the humidistat or controls, any permit and the warranty, along with the drain and duct work. Without those lines, quotes could not be compared.

20% of the answers (52 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote includes the drain line, controls, and any electrical work.

— Claude, asked “Dehumidifier installation near me — I'm in Pinellas Park, FL. Who do you recommend?”, October 8, 2026

Does the company check the AC and ducts first?

Some answers told customers to ask whether the company would check if the AC is oversized or the ducts leak before recommending a dehumidifier. The dampness can come from the cooling system, so a check first made a company easier to trust.

17% of the answers (46 of 263) brought this up.

Ask whether they'll check if your AC is oversized.

— Claude, asked “Dehumidifier installation near me — I'm in 33755. Who do you recommend?”, October 8, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 32 of the 263 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 30 of its 79, ChatGPT in 2 of its 112 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 72. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 18 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 11 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 3 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number for this job, and some could not confirm that a company installs dehumidifiers at all. A page that names the work, shows a completed install and gives a working number answers what they kept telling customers to check.

None of the search results gave a phone number I could verify, so I haven't listed any.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dehumidifier installation in St. Petersburg, FL 33713?”, October 14, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 191 ChatGPT and Claude answers about dehumidifier installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 100% (191 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 22% (42 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 6% (12 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 2% (4 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 82% of its 72 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your dehumidifier installation page checklist

Work through this list on your dehumidifier installation page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “dehumidifier installation”, “whole-house dehumidifier installation” or “whole-home dehumidifier” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Name the kinds of units the company installs, such as ducted whole-home or crawl space units, and how each connects.
  3. Explain how the company plans the drain for each install, and when a pump is needed.
  4. Describe the assessment the company does before choosing a unit size, and what the customer receives from it.
  5. Give dehumidifier installation its own page that says the company installs whole-home units.
  6. Show a sample quote that lists the unit, the duct connection, the drain, the electrical work, the controls and the permit.
  7. Say what the company inspects in the AC and ductwork before proposing a dehumidifier.
  8. Put a single working phone number and a way to request a dehumidifier assessment on the dehumidifier page itself.
  9. Link to recent reviews and point to ones from customers who had a dehumidifier installed.
  10. List the towns and ZIP codes where the company installs dehumidifiers.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like dehumidifier installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What is included in a whole-home dehumidifier installation?

Answers about this job most often mentioned the unit, sizing, the duct connection, a condensate drain, electrical work, controls, any permit and the warranty. A page should list which of these the company handles and show a completed install as an example.

What is the difference between a whole-home dehumidifier and a portable one?

A whole-home unit usually ties into the ductwork and drains on its own, while a portable unit sits in a room and is emptied by hand or a hose. Assistants told customers to ask which one a company installs, so a page should say plainly.

Should an HVAC company check the air conditioner before installing a dehumidifier?

Many assistants told customers to ask for that. They suggested checking whether the AC is oversized, whether the ducts leak and what the indoor humidity is. A page should describe what the company checks before it recommends a unit.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 4 and October 14, 2026, they answered 263 questions about dehumidifier installation: ChatGPT 112, Claude 79, Google AI Mode 72.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 263 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 14, 2026. We asked for dehumidifier installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
