Who AI assistants recommend for dishwasher installation

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for dishwasher installation recommendations 287 times. Here is what they needed to see on a plumber's page before naming it to install a dishwasher.

The short answer

Before naming a company to install a dishwasher, assistants first needed proof that it does new installs, not only repairs. Then they looked for what the quote covers: removing and hauling away the old unit, the water and drain connections, the electrical hookup and a leak test.

What people actually asked

We asked for dishwasher installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 287 answers it produced between September 3 and October 10, 2026:

  • “Looking for someone to do dishwasher installation in Seminole, FL next month. Any recommendations?”104 answers, asked with five different timings: next month, sometime this month, in the next few weeks, before the end of the month and in two weeks
  • “Dishwasher installation near me — I'm in 33770. Who do you recommend?”103 answers
  • “Who should I call for dishwasher installation in Clearwater, FL?”80 answers

Together, the 287 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor. Each town came up in 35 to 36 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 136, Claude 103 and Google AI Mode 48.

Customers also call it “dishwasher hookup” or “dishwasher plumbing installation”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“Does installation include removal and all the required connections?” Appliance fitting can cross plumbing, electrical and cabinetry responsibilities.

What your dishwasher installation page has to explain

Many of the companies assistants found for this job were appliance repair shops. Their pages talked about fixing dishwashers, not putting new ones in. Answers kept telling customers to call and ask whether the company installs at all. A page that says plainly that you install dishwashers, including replacements and first-time installs, clears up that doubt before the customer has to ask.

A dishwasher install touches plumbing, electrical work and the cabinet around it. The answers warned that installers split these jobs differently, and that parts and removal are often billed separately. Assistants told customers to ask whether a new supply line, drain hose, shutoff valve or wiring was part of the price. The page has to say which connections you handle yourself and when another trade is needed.

Many customers had already bought the dishwasher, or were about to buy one from a big store. Assistants often compared a store's installation add-on with an independent installer. They told customers to ask whether a company will install a unit the customer supplies. A page that answers that, and says what labor warranty comes with the work, gives the customer a reason to call you.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 287 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for dishwasher installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Does the price include removing the old dishwasher?

Most answers told customers to ask whether disconnecting and hauling away the old unit was part of the quote. Several said removal is often a separate line item, so customers wanted it spelled out before booking.

66% of the answers (188 of 287) brought this up.

Ask if the quote includes disconnecting/removing the old unit and any needed plumbing/electrical hookup, since that's often billed separately.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dishwasher installation in 33772?”, September 24, 2026

Which water and drain parts are included?

Assistants told customers to ask whether the quote includes a new supply line, drain hose and shutoff valve. Many also mentioned the drain setup under the sink, such as an air gap or high loop. Customers wanted to know which parts the installer brings and which they must buy.

52% of the answers (148 of 287) brought this up.

Ask whether their quote includes removal of the old dishwasher, new supply line, drain hose/air gap or high loop setup, electrical connection, haul-away, and leak testing.

— ChatGPT, asked “Dishwasher installation near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who do you recommend?”, September 3, 2026

Will you install a dishwasher the customer already bought?

Many answers began by asking whether the customer was buying the dishwasher from a store. Assistants pointed buyers toward the store's installation add-on, and pointed everyone else to independent installers. They told customers to confirm an installer will fit a unit bought elsewhere.

51% of the answers (147 of 287) brought this up.

Ask whether they'll install a dishwasher you bought elsewhere.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dishwasher installation in 34683?”, October 1, 2026

Is the installation covered by a labor warranty?

Many answers mentioned a labor warranty on the installation when comparing options. A written warranty on the work gave customers something to weigh against a store's bundled install.

48% of the answers (137 of 287) brought this up.

Who handles the electrical hookup?

Answers often told customers to ask who connects the power and whether the dishwasher is plugged in or wired directly. Some said installers charge extra for electrical changes, or need an electrician for them.

34% of the answers (97 of 287) brought this up.

Ask whether they include haul-away, new supply line/drain hose, permit if needed, and whether they’ll handle electrical hardwire vs plug-in.

— ChatGPT, asked “Looking for someone to do dishwasher installation in Pinellas Park, FL in the next few weeks. Any recommendations?”, September 5, 2026

Do you install dishwashers, or only repair them?

Assistants often found companies whose pages only mentioned dishwasher repair. They could not tell whether those companies installed new units, so they told customers to call and ask. That doubt left many companies as a maybe rather than a clear match.

10% of the answers (29 of 287) brought this up.

Ask whether they do installs or only repairs.

— Claude, asked “Dishwasher installation near me — I'm in 34698. Who do you recommend?”, October 2, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 37 of the 287 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 36 of its 103, ChatGPT in 1 of its 136 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 48. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 17 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 8 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 4 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number for the companies they named, and often could not confirm that a company installs dishwashers at all. A page that names the service, lists what the price includes and shows a working number answers both.

I didn't see any of them say they install dishwashers, so ask each one before booking.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for dishwasher installation in Tarpon Springs, FL?”, October 8, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 239 ChatGPT and Claude answers about dishwasher installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 92% (221 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 73% (175 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 62% (149 answers)
  • An official license lookup: under 1% (1 answer)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 65% of its 48 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

The checks behind every recommendation, applied to dishwasher installation

Can the customer reach a person?

Phone numbers were the thing assistants most often could not find for this job. Several answers left numbers out rather than guess, and sent customers to a contact form or a directory listing.

17 of the 287 answers about dishwasher installation, 17 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 147 of the 290 conversations where it came up.

What do recent customers say?

Assistants often found reviews about dishwasher repairs, not installs, and some companies had none at all. They told customers to check reviews themselves or ask for references.

8 of the 287 answers about dishwasher installation, 8 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 139 of the 569 conversations where it came up.

Do you serve the customer’s town or ZIP code?

Assistants often found installers listed in a nearby town and could not confirm they served the customer's ZIP code. Some told customers to ask whether a company would travel to their address.

4 of the 287 answers about dishwasher installation, 4 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 350 of the 554 conversations where it came up.

Your dishwasher installation page checklist

Work through this list on your dishwasher installation page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “dishwasher installation”, “dishwasher hookup” or “dishwasher plumbing installation” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. State whether disconnecting, removing and hauling away the old dishwasher is included, and the extra charge if it is not.
  3. List the water and drain parts your install includes, and which ones cost extra if the old ones cannot be reused.
  4. Say whether you install dishwashers that customers buy themselves, and from which stores or brands.
  5. State what your labor warranty covers on a dishwasher install and how long it lasts.
  6. Say whether you connect both plug-in and hardwired dishwashers, and when the job needs a licensed electrician.
  7. Say on the page that you install new dishwashers, and whether that covers replacements, first-time installs or both.
  8. Put a working phone number and a quote request on the dishwasher installation page itself.
  9. Link to recent reviews and point to ones that mention a dishwasher install.
  10. List the towns and ZIP codes where you install dishwashers, not only where your shop is.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like dishwasher installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What should a dishwasher installation price include?

Answers about this job most often mentioned removing and hauling away the old unit, a new supply line, the drain setup and the electrical hookup. Many also mentioned leveling, securing the unit and a leak test. Installers differ on which of these are extra, so the page should list exactly what is included.

Should I hire a plumber or an appliance installer for a new dishwasher?

Assistants named both plumbers and appliance companies for this job. They told customers to ask whether the company does new installs and handles the water, drain and electrical connections. A replacement in the same spot is simpler than a first-time install that needs new lines or wiring.

Can I buy the dishwasher myself and hire someone else to install it?

Yes. Many answers began by asking whether the customer bought the dishwasher from a store, then compared the store's install add-on with independent installers. Assistants told customers to confirm the installer will fit a unit bought elsewhere and to ask what warranty covers the work.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 3 and October 10, 2026, they answered 287 questions about dishwasher installation: ChatGPT 136, Claude 103, Google AI Mode 48.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 287 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 3 and October 10, 2026. We asked for dishwasher installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
