Who AI assistants recommend for garbage disposal installation
We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for garbage disposal installation recommendations 312 times. Here is what they needed to see on a plumber's page before naming it to install a new disposal.
The short answer
Before naming a plumber to install a garbage disposal, assistants wanted to know exactly what the price covers. That meant the unit or labor only, removing the old one, the dishwasher drain and any electrical work. They also checked whether the plumber will install a disposal the customer already bought.

What people actually asked
We asked for garbage disposal installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 312 answers it produced between September 4 and October 14, 2026:
- “Looking for someone to do garbage disposal installation in Dunedin, FL 34698 sometime this month. Any recommendations?”112 answers, asked with five different timings: before the end of the month, in the next few weeks, next month, sometime this month and in two weeks
- “Garbage disposal installation near me — I'm in 33770. Who do you recommend?”104 answers
- “Who should I call for garbage disposal installation in 33772?”96 answers
Together, the 312 answers covered 16 towns in Pinellas County: including Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor and Pinellas Park. Each town came up in 3 to 36 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 120, Claude 112 and Google AI Mode 80.
Customers also call it “disposal installation”, “new garbage disposal” or “disposal replacement”, so use those words on the page as well.
The question underneath all of them
“Who supplies the disposal and handles the related connections?” A like-for-like replacement and a first installation can involve different work.
What your garbage disposal installation page has to explain
A disposal install sounds simple, but the answers showed how many parts a price can leave out. Assistants told customers to ask whether the quote includes the unit, haul-away of the old one, a new sink flange, the dishwasher connection and the power hookup. A page that lists what the installed price includes, and what costs extra, answers most of those questions at once.
Swapping an old disposal and putting in a first one are different jobs. A first install may need a new drain fitting and an outlet or switch under the sink. Assistants told customers to say which job they had and to ask whether the plumber handles the electrical side or sends an electrician. The page should price the two jobs separately and say who does the wiring.
Many customers had already bought a disposal. Answers told them to ask for a labor-only price and whether the plumber will install a unit it did not supply. Others wanted the plumber to supply one. A page that offers both, and names the units it usually installs, lets the customer compare plumbers on the same terms.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 312 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for garbage disposal installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
What does the installed price include?
Assistants told customers to ask what the quote covers more than anything else for this job. They listed the same pieces: the unit, labor, mounting hardware, the sink flange and connections. Without that list, two quotes cannot be compared.
31% of the answers (96 of 312) brought this up.
Ask for an all-in quote covering disposal unit, removal of the old unit, install, electrical connection, and warranty.
Does the plumber remove and haul away the old unit?
Assistants regularly told customers to ask whether removing the old disposal and hauling it away is part of the price. It is a small cost, but leaving it out of a quote made comparisons harder.
28% of the answers (86 of 312) brought this up.
Confirm the installer is licensed/insured in Florida, and ask if they haul away the old unit.
Who handles the outlet, switch or wiring?
Answers often warned that the electrical connection is an add-on, especially when there is no outlet under the sink or the old unit is hardwired. Customers were told to ask whether the plumber does that work or brings in an electrician.
25% of the answers (79 of 312) brought this up.
Ask if they'll add an outlet or switch if your sink has no power under it.
Will the plumber install a disposal the customer bought?
Many answers told customers to ask whether the plumber will install a unit they bought, and for a labor-only price if so. Assistants noted that supplying and installing can be priced very differently.
17% of the answers (53 of 312) brought this up.
Ask for a quote for “replace existing disposal with customer-supplied unit” versus “supply and install,” since pricing can differ a lot.
Is the dishwasher drain reconnected?
Many answers told customers to ask whether the install reconnects the dishwasher drain. A new disposal can need that step before the dishwasher drains properly, so customers wanted it named in the quote.
12% of the answers (39 of 312) brought this up.
Ask whether the price includes the unit, the electrical hookup, the dishwasher connection and haul-away of the old one.
Is it a straight swap or a first installation?
Assistants asked customers whether they were replacing an old disposal or adding one for the first time. Answers said the two can price very differently, because a first install can need new fittings and power.
12% of the answers (37 of 312) brought this up.
Ask for an installed price for “swap out existing disposal” versus “new disposal install with electrical/switch work,” since those can price very differently.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 46 of the 312 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 45 of its 112, ChatGPT in 1 of its 120 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 80. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 29 answers
- Reviews it could check: 15 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 9 answers
- When the company could do the work: 5 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 5 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 3 answers
Assistants most often could not find a phone number, and many pages did not say the plumber installs disposals at all. A page that names the job, lists what the price includes and gives a working number answers what customers were told to call about.
Ask them to confirm they'll install a new disposal, because the page I saw didn't list installation by name.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 232 ChatGPT and Claude answers about garbage disposal installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 98% (228 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 66% (153 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 38% (89 answers)
- An official license lookup: 4% (9 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 58% of its 80 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

- Say whether removing and disposing of the old unit is included in the installed price.
- Explain what electrical work your install includes, and what happens when the sink has no outlet or switch.
- Say whether you install customer-supplied units, and give the labor-only price next to the supply-and-install price.
- State whether reconnecting the dishwasher drain is included, and mention it in your installation example.
- Price a like-for-like swap and a first installation separately, and say what extra work a first install can involve.
- Put a working phone number and a way to request an install quote on the installation page.
- Link to your recent reviews and point to ones from customers whose disposal you installed.
- State a starting price for labor only and for supply and install, and what can raise it.
Going further: let assistants see real openings
For planned work like garbage disposal installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
What should a garbage disposal installation quote include?
Answers about this job most often listed the unit or labor only and haul-away of the old disposal. They also named a new sink flange, the dishwasher drain and the electrical hookup. A page that says which of these the price covers lets a customer compare plumbers fairly.
Will a plumber install a disposal I bought myself?
Assistants told customers to ask, because some plumbers prefer to supply the unit. When they agree, customers were told to ask for a labor-only price. A page that states its policy and both prices saves the customer a call.
Does a new garbage disposal need an electrician?
Answers said it depends on whether there is already a switched outlet under the sink or the old unit was hardwired. Customers were told to ask whether the plumber handles that work or sends an electrician. The page should say which it does.
Which AI assistants did you test?
ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 4 and October 14, 2026, they answered 312 questions about garbage disposal installation: ChatGPT 120, Claude 112, Google AI Mode 80.
Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?
No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.
How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 312 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 14, 2026. We asked for garbage disposal installation in 16 towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
