Who AI assistants recommend for gutter guard installation

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for gutter guard installation recommendations 184 times. Here is what they needed to see on a company's page before naming it for gutter guards.

The short answer

Before naming a company for gutter guards, assistants first needed to know it installs guards at all, not only gutters. Then they looked for the guard type and product, whether cleaning and repairs come first, and what the warranty covers for both the product and the labor.

What people actually asked

We asked for gutter guard installation in two different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 184 answers it produced between September 4 and October 10, 2026:

  • “Gutter guard installation near me — I'm in 33770. Who do you recommend?”104 answers
  • “Who should I call for gutter guard installation in 33755?”80 answers

Together, the 184 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs. Each town came up in 23 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 72, Claude 64 and Google AI Mode 48.

Customers also call it “gutter guards”, “leaf guard installation” or “micro-mesh gutter guards”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“What should I expect the proposed gutter guards to do?” Product suitability and maintenance needs should be explained without promising a permanently maintenance-free system.

What your gutter guard installation page has to explain

Many roofers and gutter companies list gutters, cleaning or screening work, but never say they install guards. Assistants often found a company and still could not tell whether guards were part of its work. Many answers ended by telling the customer to call and ask. A page that names the service plainly, and says whether guards go on existing gutters or with new ones, removes that doubt.

The answers treated the guard product as the real choice. They told customers to ask which guard type and brand each company uses, and how it handles the debris and rain at that house. Pine needles, oak leaves and heavy downpours came up again and again. The page has to explain which products the company installs and which homes each one suits, without promising the gutters will never need care again.

Assistants also warned that a low quote can leave out the work underneath. They told customers to ask whether the gutters are cleaned, flushed, re-pitched and repaired before the guards go on. They asked about the warranty in almost the same breath, and whether it covers labor and transfers with the house. A page that lists the preparation and the warranty terms answers both questions at once.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 184 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for gutter guard installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Which guard type and product does the company install?

Most answers told customers to ask which guard type each company uses, such as micro-mesh, screen or reverse-curve. Answers said prices and results vary a lot by product, so the product named in the quote is how a customer compares one company with another.

66% of the answers (122 of 184) brought this up.

Ask what brand of guard they use and what the warranty covers.

— Claude, asked “Gutter guard installation near me — I'm in 33770. Who do you recommend?”, October 2, 2026

Are the gutters cleaned and repaired before the guards go on?

Answers explained that guards sit on gutters that should already be clean and sound. Assistants told customers to ask whether the quote includes cleaning, flushing, fixing sagging sections and resealing first, so the price is not missing the work underneath.

37% of the answers (68 of 184) brought this up.

Ask whether the price covers a full gutter cleaning and any repairs first, since guards go over gutters that are already clean and sound.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for gutter guard installation in Largo, FL 33770?”, October 1, 2026

Will the guard handle the trees and rain at this house?

Many answers told customers to ask how each guard holds up to pine needles, oak leaves and heavy Florida rain. Customers were choosing a product for the trees over their own roof, so a general claim did not settle it.

33% of the answers (61 of 184) brought this up.

Ask which guard type they use, and whether it holds up to Florida's heavy rain and to pine needles and oak debris.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for gutter guard installation in Pinellas Park, FL?”, October 1, 2026

Do the guards go on the existing gutters or new ones?

Assistants told customers to ask whether a quote is for guards on the gutters already there, or for new gutters as well. Some warned that a company may not repair gutters another company installed, or that adding guards can affect an existing gutter warranty.

25% of the answers (46 of 184) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote covers installing guards on your existing gutters or replacing the gutters too.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for gutter guard installation in 33755?”, October 1, 2026

Does the warranty cover the product and the labor?

Assistants regularly told customers to ask whether the warranty covers both the guard and the installation labor. Many also asked whether it transfers if the house is sold, and whether it covers clogs or only workmanship.

23% of the answers (43 of 184) brought this up.

Ask whether the warranty covers both the product and the labor, and whether it transfers if you sell the house.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 25 of the 184 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 25 of its 64, ChatGPT in 0 of its 72 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 48. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 23 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 6 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 3 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number for gutter guard companies, and sometimes could not confirm a company installed guards at all. A page that names the guard service and gives a working number answers what they kept sending customers to look up.

I couldn't find phone numbers for the first five companies in these results.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for gutter guard installation in St. Petersburg, FL 33713?”, October 1, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 136 ChatGPT and Claude answers about gutter guard installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 96% (130 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 71% (97 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 39% (53 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 2% (3 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 1% (2 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 85% of its 48 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your gutter guard installation page checklist

Work through this list on your gutter guard installation page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “gutter guard installation”, “gutter guards” or “leaf guard installation” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Name each guard product you install, what it is made of, and which kinds of homes and debris it suits.
  3. List the preparation included in every installation, and say how repairs found on the day are quoted.
  4. Explain which guard you recommend for common local trees and heavy rain, and show a real installation on a similar house.
  5. Say whether you install guards on existing gutters, when you recommend replacing them instead, and how each is priced.
  6. State the warranty on the product and on the labor separately, how long each lasts, and whether it transfers to a new owner.
  7. Put a working phone number and an estimate request on the gutter guard page itself.
  8. Link to recent reviews, and point to ones from gutter guard customers that mention the installers.
  9. List the towns and ZIP codes where you install gutter guards.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like gutter guard installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What should a gutter guard installation quote include?

Answers about this job told customers to look for the guard product and type, the linear footage, the price, and the warranty terms. They also asked whether cleaning, flushing and gutter repairs are included before the guards go on. A page that lists all of these makes quotes easy to compare.

Which type of gutter guard works best with pine needles?

Assistants often pointed customers toward micro-mesh guards for pine needles and small debris. They told them to ask each installer how its product holds up to local trees and heavy rain. The page should say which products you recommend for which trees, and why.

Do gutter guards mean the gutters never need cleaning?

The answers did not say any guard makes gutters maintenance free. Assistants asked about warranties on clogs and about the gutters underneath. A page should explain what upkeep the chosen guard still needs, and whether the company offers that service.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 4 and October 10, 2026, they answered 184 questions about gutter guard installation: ChatGPT 72, Claude 64, Google AI Mode 48.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 184 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 10, 2026. We asked for gutter guard installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
