Who AI assistants recommend for hot tub and pool electrical wiring

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for hot tub and pool electrical wiring recommendations 255 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician’s page before naming it for pool or hot tub wiring.

The short answer

Before naming an electrician for pool or hot tub wiring, assistants needed to see that the company does pool and spa work at all. Then they looked for who pulls the permit and books the inspection, whether the quote covers GFCI protection, bonding and the disconnect, and how the circuit is sized for the equipment.

What people actually asked

We asked for hot tub and pool electrical wiring in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 255 answers it produced between September 4 and October 10, 2026:

  • “I'm looking to get hot tub and pool electrical wiring done in Tarpon Springs, FL before the end of the month. Who should I get quotes from?”96 answers, asked with five different timings: before the end of the month, in two weeks, in the next few weeks, next month and sometime this month
  • “Hot tub and pool electrical wiring near me — I'm in Seminole, FL 33772. Who do you recommend?”88 answers
  • “Who should I call for hot tub and pool electrical wiring in 33770?”71 answers

Together, the 255 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs and Pinellas Park. Each town came up in 31 to 32 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 112, Claude 79 and Google AI Mode 64.

Customers also call it “hot tub circuit installation”, “pool rewiring” or “spa electrical hookup”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“What electrical work is included for this pool or hot tub?” Equipment requirements and the actual property setup need a professional assessment rather than a generic package assumption.

What your hot tub and pool electrical wiring page has to explain

Many electricians list panels, repairs and wiring, but their pages never mention pools or spas. Assistants often found a licensed company and still could not tell whether it takes this kind of job. Answers kept telling customers to ask before booking. A page that names pool and hot tub wiring, and describes one finished job and its scope, settles that question.

The answers treated this as safety work with strict wet-location rules. Assistants told customers that a proper quote covers GFCI protection, bonding of metal parts, a disconnect near the tub, and any trenching or conduit, plus the permit and inspection. They warned against quotes that only run a wire. The page has to list what the job includes in plain words.

No two setups are alike. A hot tub's spec sheet sets the amperage, and the home's panel may or may not handle the added load. A separate pool or spa company is often involved too. Assistants told customers to ask how the electrician sizes the circuit and works with the installer. The page should explain that the job starts with a look at the actual equipment and property.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 255 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for hot tub and pool electrical wiring, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Does the quote cover GFCI, bonding and the disconnect?

Many answers listed what a complete quote should include: GFCI protection, bonding of metal parts, a disconnect within sight of the tub, and trenching or conduit. Assistants warned that a quote covering only the wire run leaves work out. Customers compared quotes by these items.

35% of the answers (88 of 255) brought this up.

Ask whether the quote includes a GFCI breaker, a disconnect within sight of the tub, and bonding of metal parts.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for hot tub and pool electrical wiring in Tarpon Springs, FL 34689?”, October 8, 2026

Who pulls the permit and books the inspection?

Assistants regularly told customers to ask who pulls the electrical permit and schedules the inspection. Several answers noted that pool and spa wiring needs its own permit, separate from any pool building permit. Customers wanted to know whether the permit fee was in the quote.

34% of the answers (87 of 255) brought this up.

Ask who pulls the permit and whether the quote includes it and the inspection.

— Claude, asked “I'm looking to get hot tub and pool electrical wiring done in Palm Harbor, FL 34683 before the end of the month. Who should I get quotes from?”, September 19, 2026

How is the circuit sized for this equipment?

Assistants told customers to ask what amperage the electrician plans around the tub's specs, and whether the panel can handle the added load. Some suggested having the spec sheet ready when asking for quotes. The answer changes what the job involves and costs.

27% of the answers (70 of 255) brought this up.

Ask for the amperage they're planning around your hot tub's specs.

— Claude, asked “I'm looking to get hot tub and pool electrical wiring done in Pinellas Park, FL 33781 in two weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”, September 19, 2026

How soon can the job be permitted and finished?

Customers often had a date in mind, and answers warned that the permit and inspection can be what delays the job. Assistants told customers to ask for the earliest finished, inspected date, not only an install date.

14% of the answers (35 of 255) brought this up.

The inspection can be what delays a job, so ask about their timeline.

— Claude, asked “I'm looking to get hot tub and pool electrical wiring done in St. Petersburg, FL 33713 before the end of the month. Who should I get quotes from?”, October 10, 2026

Does this electrician actually do pool and spa work?

Assistants often found electricians whose pages listed general wiring but said nothing about pools or spas. Those companies came with a note to ask whether they do this work. Reviews for general home wiring did not tell customers much about a pool job.

11% of the answers (28 of 255) brought this up.

It's a general electrician, so ask whether they do pool and spa work.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for hot tub and pool electrical wiring in 33770?”, October 1, 2026

Will they work with the pool or spa installer?

When another company is installing the tub or pool, assistants told customers to ask how the electrician works with it. Answers said the spa model can set the breaker size, so both sides need the same information.

4% of the answers (10 of 255) brought this up.

Ask if they're used to working alongside your pool/spa installer, since hot tub circuits often need coordination on amperage/breaker sizing specific to the spa pack model.

— Claude, asked “Hot tub and pool electrical wiring near me — I'm in Palm Harbor, FL. Who do you recommend?”, September 18, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 40 of the 255 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 40 of its 79, ChatGPT in 0 of its 112 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 64. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 23 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 15 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 5 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number, and many could not confirm that an electrician does pool or spa work at all. A page that names this service, shows its scope and gives a working number answers what they kept sending customers to ask.

I didn't want to hand you numbers I couldn't verify.

— Claude, asked “I'm looking to get hot tub and pool electrical wiring done in 34683 sometime this month. Who should I get quotes from?”, October 10, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 191 ChatGPT and Claude answers about hot tub and pool electrical wiring, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 99% (190 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 39% (75 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 12% (23 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 6% (11 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 1% (2 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 62% of its 64 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like hot tub and pool electrical wiring, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Does hot tub wiring need a permit?

Assistants regularly said pool and hot tub wiring needs a permit and an inspection, and told customers to ask who pulls it. Some noted it is separate from a pool building permit. A page should say whether the electrician pulls the permit and whether the fee is in the quote.

What should a hot tub electrical quote include?

Answers most often listed the permit, a dedicated circuit, GFCI protection, bonding, a disconnect near the tub, trenching or conduit, and the final inspection. Assistants warned against quotes that only run a wire. A page that lists what is included helps customers compare.

What should I have ready before asking for a hot tub wiring quote?

Assistants suggested having the tub's spec sheet ready, since it sets the amperage and breaker size. They also told customers to mention any deadline and whether another company is installing the tub. A page can say what details the electrician needs to quote the job.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 255 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 10, 2026. We asked for hot tub and pool electrical wiring in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
