Who AI assistants recommend for outlet installation and repair

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for outlet installation and repair recommendations 267 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician’s page before naming it for outlet work.

The short answer

Before naming an electrician for outlet work, assistants looked for how the first visit is charged. They checked whether diagnosis is priced apart from replacing the outlet, and whether the price is set up front. They also checked for urgent help with a hot or sparking outlet, permits for new circuits, and a willingness to take small jobs.

What people actually asked

We asked for outlet installation and repair in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 267 answers it produced between September 6 and October 13, 2026:

  • “Outlet installation and repair near me — I'm in Clearwater, FL 33755. Who do you recommend?”95 answers
  • “Who should I call for outlet installation and repair in 33772?”94 answers
  • “Looking for someone to do outlet installation and repair in Tarpon Springs, FL 34689 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”78 answers, asked with five different timings: in two weeks, next month, before the end of the month, in the next few weeks and sometime this month

Together, the 267 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Dunedin, Seminole, St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater, Largo, Palm Harbor and Pinellas Park. Each town came up in 32 to 34 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 104, Claude 92 and Google AI Mode 71.

Customers also call it “electrical outlet installation”, “outlet replacement”, “new outlet installation” or “receptacle installation”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“Are you repairing an existing outlet or adding a new one?” A faulty device, a circuit problem and a new outlet location are distinct scopes.

What your outlet installation and repair page has to explain

Outlet work covers three different jobs. A worn outlet can be swapped. A dead outlet may point to a wiring or circuit problem behind the wall. A new outlet in a new spot may need a new circuit. Assistants told customers to ask whether troubleshooting is quoted apart from the replacement. A page that separates these jobs helps the customer know what they are asking for.

Because a single outlet is a small job, the visit fee matters as much as the repair. Answers kept telling customers to ask about a service-call fee, a minimum charge, and whether that fee counts toward the work. Some suggested asking for a per-outlet price when several outlets need work. The page should explain how a small visit is priced before anyone comes out.

Answers also split the urgent calls from the routine ones. An outlet that is hot, sparking or smells burnt was treated as a reason to call for urgent help. Other answers covered planned work weeks ahead, such as new outlets in a kitchen or garage. The page should say which outlet problems get a same-day visit and how planned installs are booked.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 267 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for outlet installation and repair, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Is it a faulty outlet or a wiring problem?

Assistants told customers to ask whether troubleshooting is priced apart from replacing the outlet. A dead outlet may be a worn part, or it may lead back to the circuit. Customers wanted to know what happens to the price if the problem is not the outlet itself.

60% of the answers (159 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they’re licensed/insured, whether there’s a service-call fee, and whether they can quote separately for troubleshooting versus replacing the outlet.

— ChatGPT, asked “Outlet installation and repair near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL. Who do you recommend?”, September 7, 2026

Does it come quickly for a hot or sparking outlet?

Many answers treated a hot, sparking, discolored or burnt-smelling outlet as urgent. They told customers to mention these signs when they call and ask for urgent service. Electricians that showed same-day or emergency service stood out for these calls.

47% of the answers (125 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they’re licensed and insured, request an upfront quote, and mention if the outlet is sparking, hot, discolored, or smells burnt—those are urgent electrical-safety issues.

— ChatGPT, asked “Who should I call for outlet installation and repair in 34683?”, October 11, 2026

Does a new outlet need a new circuit or a permit?

Answers drew a line between replacing an outlet and adding one where none exists. Adding outlets or a new circuit could need a permit, so assistants told customers to ask who pulls it and whether it is in the price.

28% of the answers (74 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they’re licensed/insured, whether the quote includes parts, and whether a permit is needed if they’re adding a new circuit rather than replacing an existing outlet.

— ChatGPT, asked “Outlet installation and repair near me — I'm in Tarpon Springs, FL. Who do you recommend?”, September 7, 2026

What does the visit itself cost?

Answers often told customers to ask about a service-call fee or trip charge before booking. For a single outlet, that fee can be most of the bill. Several told customers to ask whether the fee is credited toward the repair.

24% of the answers (63 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they charge a service-call fee and whether it is credited toward the work.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do outlet installation and repair in Clearwater, FL 33755 next month. Any recommendations?”, October 13, 2026

Is the price fixed before the work starts?

Assistants told customers to ask for a flat or upfront price, especially for a simple outlet swap. When several outlets need work, some suggested asking for a per-outlet price. A fixed price lets the customer compare electricians for a small job.

17% of the answers (45 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they charge a service-call fee and whether they quote a flat price for the job.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for outlet installation and repair in Largo, FL?”, September 20, 2026

Does the electrician take small jobs?

Some answers told customers to ask whether an electrician takes small jobs like a single outlet. Others suggested bundling several small fixes into one visit. Customers wanted to know they would not be turned away for a job this size.

15% of the answers (40 of 267) brought this up.

Ask whether they take small jobs like outlets.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for outlet installation and repair in 33772?”, October 11, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 36 of the 267 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 35 of its 92, ChatGPT in 0 of its 104 and Google AI Mode in 1 of its 71. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 25 answers
  • When the company could do the work: 8 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 7 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 7 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 5 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 3 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number, and often could not confirm availability, reviews or licenses. A page with a direct number, the visit fee and how soon a small job can be booked answers what they kept sending customers to check.

I didn't find phone numbers for most of these in the search results.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for outlet installation and repair in Clearwater, FL?”, October 11, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 196 ChatGPT and Claude answers about outlet installation and repair, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 93% (182 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 70% (138 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 14% (27 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 6% (11 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 5% (10 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 89% of its 71 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

The checks behind every recommendation, applied to outlet installation and repair

Can the customer reach a person?

Can you schedule the job when the customer needs it?

Assistants could not confirm current availability for these electricians. Answers split urgent calls for a hot or sparking outlet from planned work weeks ahead, and told customers to ask about both.

8 of the 267 answers about outlet installation and repair, 8 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 185 of the 657 conversations where it came up.

What do recent customers say?

Assistants often found few reviews or could not confirm them. Some noted that a listing had no reviews yet and could not say how good the company was.

7 of the 267 answers about outlet installation and repair, 7 of them from Claude, said the assistant couldn’t confirm this. In our July–August study across eight trades, it cost a business its place in 139 of the 569 conversations where it came up.

Your outlet installation and repair page checklist

Work through this list on your outlet installation and repair page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “outlet installation and repair”, “electrical outlet installation” or “outlet replacement” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Explain how you find the cause of a dead or faulty outlet, and how extra wiring work is quoted once you find it.
  3. Say which outlet problems you treat as urgent and how soon you can reach a customer who reports one.
  4. Explain when a new outlet needs a new circuit or a permit, and who handles the permit if one is needed.
  5. State your service-call fee or minimum charge, and whether it is applied to the work if the customer goes ahead.
  6. Say whether you quote a flat price per outlet or per job, and when you give it.
  7. State that you take single-outlet jobs, and say how a customer can add other small fixes to the same visit.
  8. Put a working phone number on the outlet page, with the hours someone answers it.
  9. Say how soon you can come for an urgent outlet problem and how far ahead routine outlet work is booked.
  10. Link to your recent reviews and point to ones that mention outlet repairs or new outlets.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like outlet installation and repair, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What does an electrician charge to repair one outlet?

Answers rarely found a price. They told customers to ask about the service-call fee, any minimum charge, and whether the fee counts toward the repair. A page that states the visit fee and a starting price for a standard outlet swap answers the first thing customers were told to ask.

Is replacing an outlet different from adding a new one?

Yes. Replacing an outlet swaps a part in an existing spot. Adding one in a new spot may need new wiring, a new circuit or a permit. Assistants told customers to ask which kind of job they have, so the page should describe each one and how it is quoted.

When is a problem outlet urgent?

Answers treated an outlet that is hot, sparking, discolored or smells burnt as urgent, and told customers to say so when they call. An electrician's page should list the outlet problems it treats as urgent and how quickly it can reach the customer.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 6 and October 13, 2026, they answered 267 questions about outlet installation and repair: ChatGPT 104, Claude 92, Google AI Mode 71.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 267 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 6 and October 13, 2026. We asked for outlet installation and repair in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
