Who AI assistants recommend for soffit and fascia repair

We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for soffit and fascia repair recommendations 264 times. Here is what they needed to see on a company's page before naming it to fix soffits and fascia.

The short answer

Before naming a company for soffit and fascia repair, assistants first needed to know it does this trim work and takes small repairs. Then they looked for a check for hidden rot behind the boards and a fix for the cause. They also asked whether gutters come off and go back on, the material used, and painting.

What people actually asked

We asked for soffit and fascia repair in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 264 answers it produced between September 4 and October 11, 2026:

  • “Looking for someone to do soffit and fascia repair in 33713 sometime this month. Any recommendations?”88 answers, asked with five different timings: before the end of the month, in two weeks, in the next few weeks, next month and sometime this month
  • “Soffit and fascia repair near me — I'm in 33755. Who do you recommend?”88 answers
  • “Who should I call for soffit and fascia repair in Palm Harbor, FL?”88 answers

Together, the 264 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Seminole, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs. Each town came up in 33 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 120, Claude 96 and Google AI Mode 48.

Customers also call it “fascia replacement” or “soffit replacement”, so use those words on the page as well.

The question underneath all of them

“Which trim and underlying work does the repair cover?” Visible finish replacement and investigating related deterioration can be different scopes.

What your soffit and fascia repair page has to explain

The boards a homeowner can see are often not the whole job. Assistants kept telling customers to ask whether the company checks for rotted wood behind the fascia, in the rafter ends and at the roof edge. They warned that some quotes only cover the damage with new aluminum or paint. A page should separate replacing the visible trim from repairing what is found underneath, and say how those findings are priced. That answers the question customers were told to ask first.

Answers also said rotted trim is usually a sign of something else: a roof leak, an overflowing gutter or animals getting in. Assistants told customers to ask whether the company would find and fix the cause, not just the boards. Many also asked whether the gutters would be taken down and put back as part of the job. The page should explain how the roofer looks for the cause, and who fixes it if it is outside the agreed work.

Many companies doing this work are siding, gutter or painting contractors rather than roofers, and their listings did not always say they repair soffits and fascia. Assistants told customers to ask about small repairs as well as full replacement, the material used, and whether painting and cleanup are included. A real project that shows the areas fixed, the material and the finished paint shows the full scope.

Will they find and fix what caused the damage?

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for soffit and fascia repair in Pinellas Park, FL?”, October 9, 2026

9% of the answers (23 of 264) brought this up.

Ask whether they'll replace rotted wood or just patch and paint, since that changes the price a lot.

— Claude, asked “Soffit and fascia repair near me — I'm in Seminole, FL 33772. Who do you recommend?”, September 19, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 41 of the 264 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 40 of its 96, ChatGPT in 0 of its 120 and Google AI Mode in 1 of its 48. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 25 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 12 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 7 answers

Assistants most often could not find a phone number, and often found no license number on the company's site. A page that shows both, along with the soffit and fascia service by name, answers what they kept telling customers to ask for.

Their site doesn't list a license number or a warranty, so ask for both.

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 216 ChatGPT and Claude answers about soffit and fascia repair, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 99% (214 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 59% (127 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 5% (10 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: under 1% (1 answer)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 77% of its 48 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For planned work like soffit and fascia repair, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What causes soffit and fascia rot?

Answers about this job most often pointed to roof leaks, overflowing gutters and animals getting in. Assistants told customers to ask whether the company would find and fix the cause, since replacing the boards alone may not stop the damage.

Should rotted fascia be replaced or wrapped in aluminum?

Assistants warned that covering rotted wood with aluminum or paint can hide the damage. They told customers to ask whether the rotted wood will be replaced first. A page should explain when the company replaces wood and when wrapping is right.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 264 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 4 and October 11, 2026. We asked for soffit and fascia repair in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
