Who AI assistants recommend for track lighting installation
We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for track lighting installation recommendations 253 times. Here is what they needed to see on an electrician's page before naming it to install track lighting.
The short answer
Before naming an electrician for track lighting, assistants wanted to know whether the track goes on an existing ceiling box or needs new wiring. Then they looked for permits, dimmers that suit the track heads, the layout and ceiling type, patching, and whether the electrician installs a track the customer bought.

What people actually asked
We asked for track lighting installation in three different ways. Here is each one, word for word, with how many of the 253 answers it produced between September 5 and October 14, 2026:
- “Track lighting installation near me — I'm in Pinellas Park, FL 33781. Who do you recommend?”87 answers
- “Who should I call for track lighting installation in Tarpon Springs, FL?”86 answers
- “Looking for someone to do track lighting installation in 34683 in two weeks. Any recommendations?”80 answers, asked with five different timings: in two weeks, next month, before the end of the month, sometime this month and in the next few weeks
Together, the 253 answers covered eight towns in Pinellas County: Clearwater, Dunedin, Largo, Palm Harbor, Seminole, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg and Tarpon Springs. Each town came up in 31 to 32 answers. By assistant: ChatGPT 104, Claude 77 and Google AI Mode 72.
Customers also call it “track light replacement” or “gallery/accent track lighting”, so use those words on the page as well.
The question underneath all of them
“Can the track system provide the layout and control I need?” A compatible system and a planned lighting layout should be distinguished from replacing a single fitting.
What your track lighting installation page has to explain
Answers split track lighting into two jobs. Replacing a flush ceiling light with a track at the same box is a quick swap. Putting a track where there is no box, or where the customer wants a new switch, means new wiring and often a permit. Assistants told customers to say which they have, because the price can differ a lot. A page that describes and prices both answers that before the call.
Track lighting is a system, not a single fixture. Customers asked about track length, how many heads, which way they aim, and whether the ceiling is flat, sloped or vaulted. Assistants told customers to check that the dimmer works with their track heads. A page that shows a finished layout, names the track and controls used, and says which ceilings the electrician works on gives assistants that detail.
Very few electricians name track lighting on their pages. Assistants often listed general electricians and told customers to ask whether they had done track installs. Many customers had already bought a kit, so answers also asked whether the electrician installs a track the customer supplies. The page should say yes or no to both plainly.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 253 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for track lighting installation, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Does it use an existing ceiling box, or need new wiring?
Most answers told customers to say whether the track replaces an existing fixture or goes somewhere new. Assistants said new wiring, a new box or a new circuit changes the price a lot.
47% of the answers (119 of 253) brought this up.
Ask for a firm quote that includes labor, any new wiring/junction box work, and permit fees if applicable — costs can vary a lot depending on whether you're replacing an existing fixture or running new wiring.
Is a permit needed if new wiring goes in?
Many answers told customers to ask about a permit when the job adds new wiring, a new box or a new switch. Assistants said rules differ by city and county.
40% of the answers (100 of 253) brought this up.
Ask whether they’ll handle permits if new wiring or a new ceiling box is needed.
Will the dimmer work with the track heads?
Assistants often told customers to ask whether the quote includes a dimmer, and whether that dimmer suits their track heads.
32% of the answers (81 of 253) brought this up.
Ask about dimmer compatibility with your track heads, too.
What layout and ceiling type is it for?
Some answers asked how long the track is, how many heads it has and what kind of ceiling it goes on. Assistants used those details to tell whether the job is simple or involved.
19% of the answers (47 of 253) brought this up.
Ask each company whether they've installed track lighting on your type of ceiling.
Is patching and painting included?
Answers told customers to ask whether the quote covers patching around an old fixture box or any new holes. Some asked whether the electrician finishes the drywall or the customer needs a painter.
16% of the answers (40 of 253) brought this up.
Ask for a quote that includes fixture mounting + any drywall/patching if you're converting from recessed or a single fixture to a track run.
Will they install a track the customer already bought?
Many customers had already bought a track kit. Assistants told them to ask whether the electrician installs customer-supplied track lighting, or whether the quote is for labor only.
11% of the answers (28 of 253) brought this up.
Ask if they'll supply the track and heads or install ones you've bought.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 32 of the 253 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 30 of its 77, ChatGPT in 2 of its 104 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 72. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 18 answers
- Reviews it could check: 6 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers
Phone numbers were what assistants most often could not find for this job, and they rarely found anyone who names track lighting as a service. A page that names the job and gives a working number fills the gap they kept describing.
I couldn't find anyone who specifically lists track lighting in 33781.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 181 ChatGPT and Claude answers about track lighting installation, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 98% (178 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 64% (115 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 13% (23 answers)
- An official license lookup: 8% (14 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (1 answer)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 76% of its 72 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

- Explain when a track lighting job needs a permit where you work, and say that you pull it.
- Say whether you install dimmers with track lighting and how you match them to the heads.
- Show a finished track layout, note the ceiling type, and say which ceilings you install on.
- Say whether you patch and finish the ceiling after the install, and how far that goes.
- Say whether you install track kits customers buy, and whether you also supply track and heads.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For planned work like track lighting installation, a useful opening says whether it is for an assessment or the job itself, and whether the customer’s address is covered.
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
Can track lighting be installed where there is no ceiling box?
Answers said yes, but it usually means new wiring, a new box and sometimes a new switch and permit. Assistants told customers to mention this when asking for a quote. The page should explain what a new track location involves and how it is priced.
Will an electrician install a track lighting kit I bought?
Many answers told customers to ask this, since some electricians prefer to supply the fixtures. The page should say whether customer-supplied track kits are welcome, and whether the price is for labor only or includes the track and heads.
Do track lights need a special dimmer?
Answers told customers to check that the dimmer works with their track heads, especially with LED heads. The page should say whether the electrician installs and matches dimmers as part of a track lighting job.

How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 253 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 5 and October 14, 2026. We asked for track lighting installation in eight towns in Pinellas County, Florida. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
