The question underneath all of them
“Which Dunedin HVAC company is local, knows heat pumps and is clear about the diagnostic fee?” Answers noted which HVAC companies had a Dunedin office or page, then asked about heat pumps, tune-up contents and the diagnostic fee.
What your Dunedin HVAC page has to explain
HVAC questions in Dunedin ranged from tune-ups and full AC replacements to boilers, geothermal systems and evaporative coolers. Assistants seldom said no one served the town. Instead they sorted companies by whether they had a Dunedin office, were based right in town or only had a page naming Dunedin. A Dunedin HVAC page should say which of these is true.
Many answers said most Dunedin homes use heat pumps rather than gas furnaces. They told customers asking for a furnace or heating tune-up to ask for heat pump maintenance instead. For boilers, geothermal and evaporative coolers, assistants often found no local company that advertised them and told customers to ask first. The page should name the systems the company works on.
A number of HVAC answers flagged search results that looked like national referral pages, with toll-free numbers and Dunedin dropped into generic text. Assistants skipped them or said a call might reach a dispatch service instead of a local technician. A company that works here can show the difference with its street address, a local number and its license.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 1,314 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for HVAC work in Dunedin, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Does the company have a Dunedin office, or only a Dunedin page?
Dunedin HVAC answers often noted a company’s Dunedin office or address, or said it had a Dunedin service page. Some suggested a company based in town might reach the customer faster than one in Largo or Tampa.
39% of the answers (517 of 1,314) brought this up.
I recommend calling both numbers right now to check who has a technician closest to your specific pocket of 34698 for the fastest dispatch.
Does the company work on heat pumps?
Many answers said Dunedin homes mostly have heat pumps or electric heat strips rather than gas furnaces. Assistants told customers to confirm the company services their heat pump brand before booking heating work.
23% of the answers (308 of 1,314) brought this up.
Ask for a “heating system tune-up” or “heat pump/furnace maintenance,” since many homes in Dunedin use heat pumps rather than traditional gas furnaces.
Will a replacement quote include a load calculation?
For a new system, assistants told customers to ask for a load calculation rather than a size match. They also wanted the brand, model, efficiency rating and both warranties written into each quote.
12% of the answers (163 of 1,314) brought this up.
Ask for a written estimate, license number, equipment warranty, labor warranty, and whether they’ll do a proper load calculation before sizing the system.
What is the diagnostic fee, and is it credited toward the repair?
For repairs, Dunedin answers told customers to ask for the diagnostic or service-call fee up front. They also said to ask whether that fee goes toward the repair if the customer approves it.
11% of the answers (140 of 1,314) brought this up.
Ask for the diagnostic fee up front, whether it’s credited toward the repair, and whether they offer same-day service.
What does a tune-up include?
For tune-ups and maintenance plans, assistants told customers to ask whether the visit covers coil cleaning, the drain line and a capacitor check. Several wanted a written record of the visit for warranty purposes.
8% of the answers (102 of 1,314) brought this up.
Ask whether the tune-up includes condenser coil cleaning, drain line flush, capacitor testing, refrigerant pressure check, and a written inspection report.
Is a real local company behind the page?
Some Dunedin HVAC answers warned that a few search results were lead-generation pages, not local companies. Assistants said those pages may pass the customer’s request to whoever pays.
5% of the answers (65 of 1,314) brought this up.
I couldn't confirm that, and sites like this are sometimes lead-generation pages that pass your request to whoever pays.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 186 of the 1,314 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 173 of its 459, ChatGPT in 12 of its 544 and Google AI Mode in 1 of its 311. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 85 answers
- Reviews it could check: 45 answers
- When the company could do the work: 32 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 22 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 12 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 12 answers
- A warranty: 3 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 173 of its 459 answers about Dunedin (38%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dunedin in 12 (3%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 39% and 4% for HVAC.
For Dunedin HVAC companies, assistants most often could not find a phone number, then could not verify reviews or confirm who had a technician free. A page that gives a working number, links current reviews and says how soon a technician can come answers each of these.
I didn't pull phone numbers because I couldn't verify them, so use the websites or Google listings for current contact details.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 1,003 ChatGPT and Claude answers about HVAC work in Dunedin, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 98% (986 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 49% (492 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 8% (85 answers)
- An official license lookup: 6% (63 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (8 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 78% of its 311 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
Should my Dunedin HVAC page talk about heat pumps?
Yes, if you service them. Many answers said most Dunedin homes use heat pumps or electric heat strips, and told customers asking about heating to request heat pump maintenance. A page that says you service heat pumps, and names the brands, lets the customer check before calling.
Do people in Dunedin ask about boilers and geothermal systems?
Some questions did. Assistants often said true boilers and evaporative coolers are uncommon in Dunedin and found few local companies that advertised them. They told customers to ask whether a company does that work or would refer it out. If you do, say so on the page.
What should a Dunedin tune-up listing say?
Answers told customers to ask what a tune-up includes, such as coil cleaning, a drain line flush and a capacitor check, and whether they get a written report. Listing those items, the price and any maintenance plan terms on the page answers the questions customers were told to ask.
Which AI assistants did you test?

How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,314 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dunedin or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
