Who AI assistants recommend for home services in Dunedin, FL
We asked ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode for home services in Dunedin, FL recommendations 5,690 times. Here is what they looked for on a contractor’s Dunedin page, across all four trades.
The short answer
Across plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roofing, Dunedin answers often noted which contractors were based in Dunedin and how long they had worked there. Assistants then told customers to look up the Florida license, ask for the trip or diagnostic fee, get a written quote, and confirm who pulls the permit.

The question underneath all of them
“Which Dunedin contractor is really local, properly licensed and clear about the first-visit fee?” In all four trades, answers told Dunedin-based contractors apart from those that only listed the town, then told customers to check the license, fee and permit.
What your Dunedin page has to explain
Dunedin is one of the largest towns in this research, and its gaps look much like those of the other large towns. Assistants seldom said nobody served Dunedin. They spent more words telling local companies apart: which had a Dunedin address or office, which had a dedicated Dunedin page, and which had been in business for years. A Dunedin page should state each of those facts plainly.
In every trade, some answers warned about lead-generation sites. These pages put the town’s name on generic copy with a toll-free number and pass the request along to another company. Assistants said they left such results out or told customers to be careful. A real Dunedin contractor’s page can show what those sites lack: a street address, a local number and named services.
Some advice belonged to one trade. Plumbing answers sent customers to the City of Dunedin’s own water division for backflow and meter questions. Some electrical answers said older Dunedin homes may need panel work. Roofing answers asked for photos and papers an insurer would accept. Each trade’s Dunedin page should answer its own version of these questions.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 5,690 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for home services in Dunedin, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Is the contractor really based in Dunedin?
Answers in all four trades often said whether a company was Dunedin-based, had a Dunedin office or only had a page naming the town. Companies in Clearwater or Palm Harbor were still named, with a note to confirm they came to Dunedin.
36% of the answers (2,023 of 5,690) brought this up.
How long has the contractor worked here?
Dunedin answers often mentioned when a company started and whether it was family-owned. Assistants set long-running local firms beside newer listings and told customers to ask newer ones about their track record.
27% of the answers (1,532 of 5,690) brought this up.
Can a customer verify the license and the insurance policy?
Answers in every trade told customers to get the license number and look it up on the state DBPR site. Many also said to ask for a certificate of liability and workers’ comp insurance.
23% of the answers (1,294 of 5,690) brought this up.
Confirm each is licensed and insured for commercial work in Pinellas County, and ask about their guarantee/warranty terms.
Will the price be written down before work starts?
Assistants told Dunedin customers to get a written, itemized estimate before work began. They wanted it to say what was included, from parts and haul-away to the permit.
15% of the answers (860 of 5,690) brought this up.
Ask for a written estimate, confirm the electrician’s license/insurance, and ask whether a permit is needed for your exact installation.
What will it cost just to have someone come out?
For repairs in all four trades, assistants told customers to ask for the trip, service-call or diagnostic fee before anyone came out. They also asked whether that fee would be credited toward the work.
8% of the answers (482 of 5,690) brought this up.
Ask for the service-call fee and whether they can give a written estimate before starting.
Who pulls the permit?
Answers about panels, duct replacement, water heaters, repipes and roofs told customers to ask who pulls the permit. Some named the City of Dunedin and others Pinellas County as the place it comes from.
7% of the answers (381 of 5,690) brought this up.
Ask whether they pull a permit for the work — Pinellas County typically requires one for full duct replacement, and a contractor skipping that is a red flag.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 810 of the 5,690 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 755 of its 1,966, ChatGPT in 51 of its 2,360 and Google AI Mode in 4 of its 1,364. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 437 answers
- Reviews it could check: 184 answers
- When the company could do the work: 124 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 86 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 76 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 76 answers
- A warranty: 6 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 755 of its 1,966 answers about Dunedin (38%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dunedin in 76 (4%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 4%.
In Dunedin, assistants most often could not find a phone number, then could not verify reviews or say who had an opening. These are the same gaps found in the other large towns, and a Dunedin page in any trade can answer each one.
I can’t honestly say which Dunedin plumbers “genuinely check out” without checking each business’s current license and insurance records by name/license number.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 4,326 ChatGPT and Claude answers about home services in Dunedin, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 97% (4,217 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 56% (2,401 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 9% (380 answers)
- An official license lookup: 7% (323 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (33 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 73% of its 1,364 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
What should a Dunedin contractor’s town page include?
Answers in all four trades looked for where a company is based and how long it has worked in Dunedin. They also checked the license, the first-visit fee and the permit. A Dunedin page should state each of these, name 34697 and 34698, and give a working phone number.
How can my Dunedin page avoid looking like a lead-generation site?
Some answers set aside pages that put Dunedin’s name on generic copy with a toll-free number. Your page can show what those lacked: your street address, a local phone number, your license number and the services you actually do in Dunedin.
Should my Dunedin page mention the City of Dunedin?
If your work touches it, yes. Plumbing answers pointed customers to the City of Dunedin’s water division for backflow testing and the line up to the meter. Answers in several trades also mentioned City of Dunedin or Pinellas County permits. Say how you handle each.
Which AI assistants did you test?
ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 2 and October 14, 2026, they answered 5,690 questions about home services in Dunedin, FL: ChatGPT 2,360, Claude 1,966, Google AI Mode 1,364.
Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?
No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.
How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 5,690 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dunedin or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
