What people actually asked

We asked 144 different questions here between September 2 and October 14, 2026. These are the six asked most, word for word, with how many of the 1,530 answers each produced:

  • “Electrician near me — I'm in 34698. Who do you recommend?”16 answers
  • “How do I check that an electrician in Dunedin, FL actually holds a valid electrical contractor license and is insured? And which ones near me genuinely check out?”16 answers
  • “I just moved to Dunedin, FL (34698) and I don't know anyone here. Who's the go-to electrician around here?”14 answers
  • “Looking for someone to do a ceiling fan installation in 34698 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”14 answers, asked with four different timings: before the end of the month, in two weeks, next month and sometime this month
  • “Who should I call for an electrician in 34698?”14 answers
  • “Who should I call for landscape lighting installation in Dunedin, FL?”14 answers

The other 138 questions asked for other jobs or worded the request differently. All 1,530 answers were about Dunedin, in Pinellas County (ZIP codes 34697 and 34698). By assistant: ChatGPT 634, Claude 529 and Google AI Mode 367.

The questions covered 41 specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Is this Dunedin electrician really licensed, and will my job need a permit?” Answers noted which electricians were based in Dunedin and showed a license number, then asked about permits, older panels and the service-call minimum.

What your Dunedin electrical page has to explain

Many electrical questions in Dunedin asked how to check that an electrician is licensed and insured. Answers often listed a company’s state license number beside its name, or said the page showed none. Some found a second, different number on a company’s own site. A Dunedin electrical page should show one current license number and link it to the state lookup.

Permits came up for panels, subpanels, new circuits, generators and outdoor outlets. Answers said the City of Dunedin or Pinellas County may require one, and that permitting can add days to the schedule. They told customers to ask whether the electrician pulls the permit and whether the quote covers the inspection. The page should say which jobs need one.

Some answers said older Dunedin homes may need panel work before a new circuit is added. They told customers to ask about Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels, aluminum wiring and knob-and-tube wiring. For small jobs such as a switch or a ceiling fan, they told customers to ask about the minimum charge. The page should cover both kinds of work.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 1,530 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for electrical work in Dunedin, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

Is the electrician a local Dunedin shop?

Electrical answers often said whether a company was based in Dunedin, had a Dunedin office or only had a service page for the town. Some warned that a few results were lead-generation sites that forward the call elsewhere.

45% of the answers (682 of 1,530) brought this up.

I couldn't confirm it's a local shop rather than a lead-generation site.

— Claude, asked “AFCI breaker installation near me — I'm in 34698. Who do you recommend?”, September 19, 2026

Does the page show a license number the customer can check?

Answers often noted the electrical contractor license a company listed, or that its page showed none. They told customers to look the number up on the state DBPR site and ask whether the person doing the work is covered by it.

37% of the answers (567 of 1,530) brought this up.

Their page doesn't show a license number, so ask for it.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for under-cabinet lighting installation in Dunedin, FL?”, September 20, 2026

Who pulls the permit, and how long does it take?

For panels, subpanels, new circuits and generators, assistants told customers to ask whether a permit is needed and who pulls it. Some said permitting in Pinellas County can push the start date back.

19% of the answers (284 of 1,530) brought this up.

Ask each for availability up front — permitting in Pinellas County can add a few days to a couple weeks depending on the jurisdiction, so ask whether they pull the permit and how long that typically takes them.

— Claude, asked “I'm looking to get EV charger installation done in 34698 in the next few weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”, September 16, 2026

Will the electrician check older panels and wiring?

Answers told customers in older Dunedin homes to ask about Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels, aluminum wiring and knob-and-tube wiring. Some said to ask whether the panel has room before adding a circuit.

13% of the answers (202 of 1,530) brought this up.

Ask if the quote includes any panel capacity check — older Dunedin homes sometimes need a panel or subpanel upgrade to add a new dedicated circuit.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do dedicated appliance circuit installation in Dunedin, FL in two weeks. Any recommendations?”, September 18, 2026

Is there a minimum service-call charge?

For switches, outlets and other quick jobs, assistants told customers to ask about the minimum service-call charge before booking. They also asked whether the electrician could price the job before coming out.

6% of the answers (87 of 1,530) brought this up.

Ask whether there’s a service-call minimum before booking, since switch jobs can be quick but still billed with a minimum trip charge.

— ChatGPT, asked “Light switch installation and repair near me — I'm in Dunedin, FL 34698. Who do you recommend?”, September 17, 2026

Will the electrician check that the ceiling box can hold the fixture?

For ceiling fans, chandeliers and pendants, answers told customers to ask whether the quote covers a fan-rated ceiling box. They also asked about assembly, haul-away and tall ceilings.

5% of the answers (80 of 1,530) brought this up.

Ask whether they’ll verify the ceiling box is fan/chandelier-rated, whether they include assembly, and whether tall ceilings or heavy fixtures change the quote.

— ChatGPT, asked “Chandelier installation near me — I'm in 34698. Who do you recommend?”, September 9, 2026

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 214 of the 1,530 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 209 of its 529, ChatGPT in 4 of its 634 and Google AI Mode in 1 of its 367. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 123 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 60 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 28 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 22 answers
  • When the company could do the work: 18 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 17 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 209 of its 529 answers about Dunedin (40%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dunedin in 28 (5%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 5% for electrical.

Phone numbers were the gap assistants hit most often for Dunedin electricians, followed by reviews they could not verify. Several noted the state license lookup does not show liability insurance, so a page that also names the insurance carried fills one more gap.

The state license lookup doesn't show liability insurance.

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 1,163 ChatGPT and Claude answers about electrical work in Dunedin, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 98% (1,138 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 56% (651 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 9% (109 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 6% (66 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (8 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 73% of its 367 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your Dunedin electrical page checklist

Work through this list on your Dunedin electrical page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “Dunedin electrical” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Say whether you are based in Dunedin, give your shop address, and list 34697 and 34698.
  3. Show your Florida electrical contractor license number on the Dunedin page, with a link to the DBPR lookup.
  4. Say which Dunedin jobs need a permit, that you pull it, and how much time it usually adds.
  5. Say which older panels and wiring you replace, and whether a quote includes a panel capacity check.
  6. State your minimum service-call charge, and give starting prices for small Dunedin jobs.
  7. Say whether your fixture price includes checking or replacing the ceiling box, assembly and haul-away.
  8. Say how soon you usually reach a Dunedin home for an outage, and whether you answer after hours.
  9. Show one working phone number on the Dunedin electrical page, the same as on your Google listing.
  10. Link to your Google and BBB reviews, and point to recent ones from Dunedin customers.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Should my Dunedin electrical page show my license number?

Yes. Answers often listed an electrician’s license number, or noted that the page showed none, and told customers to check it on the state DBPR site. Show one current number, link it to the lookup, and make sure the same number appears everywhere your company is listed.

Do Dunedin electrical jobs need a permit?

Many answers said panel, subpanel, new circuit and generator work often does, from the City of Dunedin or Pinellas County. They told customers to ask who pulls it and how long it takes. Say which of your jobs need one and that you handle it.

Should my Dunedin page say I replace Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels?

If you replace them, yes. Some answers told customers in older Dunedin homes to ask about those panels, aluminum wiring and knob-and-tube wiring. A page that says which older systems you handle lets a customer see that before calling.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between September 2 and October 14, 2026, they answered 1,530 questions about electrical work in Dunedin, FL: ChatGPT 634, Claude 529, Google AI Mode 367.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,530 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dunedin or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
