The questions covered 41 specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Which plumber is actually in Dunedin, and what will the visit cost before they start?” Answers often noted which plumbers had a Dunedin address and a long local history, then told customers to ask about camera inspections, fees and the City of Dunedin.

What your Dunedin plumbing page has to explain

Plumbing questions in Dunedin ran from a leak under the kitchen sink to septic pumping, slab leaks and whole-house repipes. Assistants rarely said no plumber served the town. They did point out which ones were based right in Dunedin, which had a Dunedin page and how long each had been in business. A Dunedin plumbing page should answer all of that in its first lines.

Dunedin runs its own water utility, and several answers pointed customers to the City of Dunedin’s water division. They mentioned it for backflow testing, the line up to the meter and pressure questions. Others told customers to ask who pulls the City of Dunedin permit. A Dunedin plumbing page should say how the company works with the city on these jobs.

For drains and sewer lines, assistants told customers to ask for a camera inspection before any jetting or digging. For installs, they wanted an installed price naming the wax ring, supply line, haul-away and any flange repair. Some also flagged lead-generation sites that reuse one toll-free number across many towns. The page should give real prices and a local number.

31% of the answers (509 of 1,630) brought this up.

Is the plumber based in Dunedin?

12% of the answers (190 of 1,630) brought this up.

Ask whoever you call whether they do a camera inspection before jetting, especially if you have older cast iron or recurring main-line backups.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 240 of the 1,630 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 221 of its 559, ChatGPT in 17 of its 677 and Google AI Mode in 2 of its 394. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 134 answers
  • When the company could do the work: 48 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 46 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 28 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 26 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 25 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 221 of its 559 answers about Dunedin (40%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dunedin in 25 (4%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 4% for plumbing.

For Dunedin plumbers, the most common gap was a phone number, followed by who could come out soon and what recent reviews said. A page with a working number, a usual arrival time and links to recent reviews covers all of it.

I didn't verify phone numbers for these three, so check their websites before calling.

— Claude, asked “Looking for someone to do garbage disposal repair in 34698 sometime this month. Any recommendations?”, September 20, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 1,236 ChatGPT and Claude answers about plumbing work in Dunedin, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 98% (1,215 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 56% (690 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 14% (172 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 4% (54 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: 1% (15 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 73% of its 394 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,630 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dunedin or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
