The questions covered 41 specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Which Largo plumber will tell me the price up front, and who will actually show up at my door?” Answers about Largo plumbing told customers to ask what the visit costs, whether a camera or leak test comes first, and who sends the plumber.

What your Largo plumbing page has to explain

The jobs asked about in Largo ran from drain cleaning and toilet repair to septic pumping, slab leaks and backflow testing. Answers often pointed out when a plumber was located right in Largo or close to the customer’s address. Some also told customers to ask where the truck would be coming from. A Largo plumbing page should list the jobs it does here and where its plumbers start the day.

Some answers warned that certain search results were lead sites, not plumbers. They said such sites pass the call to whoever paid for it, so the customer cannot tell who will arrive. Assistants told customers to call a named local company instead. A Largo page should make clear that the company answering the phone is the one sending the plumber, under its own name and license.

For drains and sewer lines, answers told customers to ask whether a camera inspection comes before the price and whether they get the video. For hidden leaks, they asked whether the plumber finds the leak with electronic or acoustic tools before breaking into the slab. The page should explain how the problem is found and what that step costs.

What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone

We read all 1,642 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for plumbing work in Largo, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.

What the assistants told customers to ask

Most common first:

What will the visit cost before anyone comes out?

Many Largo answers told customers to ask for the trip, service-call or diagnostic fee over the phone. Some asked for a not-to-exceed price or a flat rate, so a long job would not bring a surprise bill.

19% of the answers (305 of 1,642) brought this up.

Ask for a not-to-exceed quote or diagnostic fee over the phone before they come out.

— Claude, asked “Water is leaking under my kitchen sink and I had to shut off the supply valve. I'm in Largo, FL and I need someone out today. Who should I call?”, September 3, 2026

How is a hidden or slab leak found?

Answers about slab leaks told customers to ask whether the plumber pinpoints the leak with electronic or acoustic tools first. They also asked whether the estimate separates finding the leak, fixing it and restoring the floor.

14% of the answers (228 of 1,642) brought this up.

Ask each company whether they do electronic/acoustic leak detection, whether they can reroute instead of breaking slab, and whether the estimate separates detection, repair, and concrete/floor restoration.

— ChatGPT, asked “Who should I call for slab leak repair in Largo, FL?”, September 14, 2026

Will a camera inspection come before the price?

12% of the answers (198 of 1,642) brought this up.

What does an install price cover?

For toilets, faucets, disposals and dishwashers, assistants spelled out what a quote should cover. They named removal of the old fixture, new supply lines, a wax ring or shutoff valve, and hauling the old one away.

9% of the answers (143 of 1,642) brought this up.

Ask for an all-in quote covering removal/haul-away, wax ring, supply line, shutoff valve if needed, flange repair if discovered, and warranty.

Is it a local plumber or a lead site?

Some answers flagged search results that looked like lead sites rather than Largo plumbers. They said the call goes to whoever bought the lead, so the customer does not know who will show up.

6% of the answers (93 of 1,642) brought this up.

Does the plumber hold the license for septic work?

Septic pumping and repair came up often in Largo. Assistants told customers to ask who does the septic work and whether that company holds the septic license. They also asked whether digging to the lid and disposal are in the price.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 235 of the 1,642 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 222 of its 565, ChatGPT in 12 of its 680 and Google AI Mode in 1 of its 397. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 136 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 55 answers
  • A license or insurance it could check: 32 answers
  • When the company could do the work: 32 answers
  • A price or how the job is priced: 25 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 19 answers
  • A warranty: 3 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 222 of its 565 answers about Largo (39%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Largo in 19 (3%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 4% for plumbing.

Largo plumbing answers lacked a phone number far more than anything else, then reviews and licenses the assistants could not confirm. A Largo plumbing page that gives one working number, links to current reviews and shows the license answers each of those.

I couldn't find a street address or license number on the page, so ask for their license number when you call.

— Claude, asked “I need sump pump repair today — I'm in 33770. Who can actually come out?”, September 19, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 1,245 ChatGPT and Claude answers about plumbing work in Largo, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 99% (1,227 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 51% (635 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 10% (129 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 5% (58 answers)
  • A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (6 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 65% of its 397 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

Should my Largo plumbing page list a trip fee?

Answers about Largo plumbing often told customers to ask for the trip, service-call or diagnostic fee before booking. Stating it on the page, along with whether it counts toward the repair, answers that question first. Some answers also asked about flat-rate versus hourly pricing, so say which you use.

How do I show customers my plumbing company is not a lead site?

Some Largo answers warned that certain results passed calls to whoever paid for them. A page with your company name, street address, license number and a direct phone number shows who will arrive. If your own plumbers do the work, say so plainly.

What should my page say about camera inspections and leak detection?

For clogs and sewer lines, assistants told Largo customers to ask whether a camera inspection comes first and whether they get the video. For slab leaks, they asked how the leak is located. Say what each step costs and what the customer receives.

Which AI assistants did you test?

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,642 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Largo or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
