What people actually asked

We asked 17 different questions here between October 9 and October 14, 2026. These are the six asked most, word for word, with how many of the 29 answers each produced:

  • “Air purifier installation near me — I'm in Balm, FL. Who do you recommend?”2 answers
  • “Commercial HVAC repair near me — I'm in Balm, FL 33503. Who do you recommend?”2 answers
  • “I need commercial HVAC repair tomorrow morning — I'm in Balm, FL. Who can actually come out?”2 answers
  • “I'm looking to get duct installation done in Balm, FL 33503 in two weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”2 answers
  • “Looking for someone to do air purifier installation in 33503 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”2 answers
  • “Who should I call for commercial HVAC repair in 33503?”2 answers

The other 11 questions asked for other jobs or worded the request differently. All 29 answers were about Balm, in Hillsborough County (ZIP codes 33503 and 33598). By assistant: ChatGPT 12, Claude 12 and Google AI Mode 5.

The questions covered eight specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Is there anyone who will actually drive out to Balm for this job?” In the heating and cooling questions asked so far, assistants often could not place 33503 or find a contractor that named Balm, so they searched nearby towns.

What your Balm page has to explain

Only HVAC questions have been asked about Balm so far, so this post reflects those answers. Still, most of what the answers needed had little to do with heating and cooling. They needed proof that a contractor came to Balm, a phone number they could trust and some sign that real customers had used the company.

Several answers called Balm a small rural area in southeast Hillsborough County. Some said their first search had placed 33503 in the wrong town, and another said its searches never confirmed the ZIP code. Claude said it could not confirm anyone served Balm far more often than in the large research towns. Naming Balm and 33503 together on a page gives the answer a fixed point.

Most contractors named came from Riverview, Brandon, Wimauma, Plant City or Tampa. A listing even gave a Sarasota base. Answers treated these as leads and told customers to ask whether a crew would come to their exact address. A Balm page from a nearby contractor should say plainly that the drive is part of the service.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 11 of the 29 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 11 of its 12, ChatGPT in 0 of its 12 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 5. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 10 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 5 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 4 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 11 of its 12 answers about Balm (92%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Balm in 5 (42%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 4%.

For a contractor that works in Balm, this is an opening in any trade. Assistants often could not confirm anyone served the town, and they rarely found a phone number they would stand behind. A Balm page with the town, its ZIP codes and a working number answers both.

I didn't find verified phone numbers in the results, so I haven't listed any.

— Claude, asked “Ductless mini-split installation near me — I'm in Balm, FL 33503. Who do you recommend?”, October 13, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 24 ChatGPT and Claude answers about home services in Balm, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 100% (24 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 46% (11 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 12% (3 answers)
  • An official license lookup: 8% (2 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 60% of its 5 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your Balm page checklist

Work through this list on your Balm page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “Balm” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Name the town you work from and how far out you travel, so a Balm customer can see the trip is covered.
  3. Show the license number for each trade you do, with a link to the DBPR lookup, and name your insurance.
  4. Say in so many words that you work at Balm addresses, and name 33503 and 33598 on the page.
  5. List the jobs your own crew does in Balm, and say plainly if you refer any of them out.
  6. Say how far ahead Balm jobs are usually booked, and whether you keep common equipment in stock.
  7. Say how soon you can usually get a crew to Balm, for urgent calls and for planned jobs.
  8. Show a working phone number on the Balm page that matches your Google listing.
  9. Write Balm, 33503 and 33598 into your service-area text, and say which town your crews start from.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask

What should a contractor’s Balm page say?

Answers about Balm looked first for proof that the contractor works there: the town’s name, 33503, and the town the crew drives from. Then they looked for a phone number, reviews and a Florida license they could check. Put each of these on the page in plain text.

Were plumbing, electrical or roofing jobs asked about in Balm?

Not yet. Every question about Balm so far was a heating and cooling job. What the answers missed most, though, was about the town page, not the trade: whether anyone named Balm and a phone number that worked. Those matter for any trade that serves Balm.

Why did AI assistants mix up the 33503 ZIP code?

Some answers said their first search placed 33503 in another town, such as Riverview, before they corrected it. Another said its searches never confirmed the ZIP code. A page that names Balm and 33503 side by side gives the customer, and the answer, a clear match.

Which AI assistants did you test?

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between October 9 and October 14, 2026, they answered 29 questions about home services in Balm, FL: ChatGPT 12, Claude 12, Google AI Mode 5.

Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?

No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 29 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between October 9 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Balm or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
