The question underneath all of them
“Does any contractor actually come out to Dover, and how do I reach them?” Every question asked here was about HVAC, and assistants seldom found a contractor based in Dover or a phone number to call.
What your Dover page has to explain
Only HVAC questions were asked for Dover, so this town post rests on the same small set of answers as the Dover HVAC post. A plumber, electrician or roofer who serves Dover should read it as a guide to what assistants looked for here. It is not a record of how their own trade was treated.
The answers kept running into the same wall. Searches for Dover returned directory listings and companies from nearby towns, and few pages said they served Dover. Assistants then asked the customer to confirm coverage by phone, but often had no verified number to offer. Any contractor’s Dover page can close both gaps at once.
Some answers placed 33527 in the Brandon or Valrico area, while others tied it to Seffner and Plant City. That mix-up is a reason to be plain. A Dover page should give the town’s name, its ZIP code, the nearby towns the company also covers and where its crews are based.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 30 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for home services in Dover, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Which nearby town do the crews drive from?
Most contractors the answers named were in Plant City, Brandon, Valrico or Seffner. Assistants treated them as fair options but wanted the customer to confirm the trip to Dover first.
70% of the answers (21 of 30) brought this up.
Does the contractor do the job asked about?
Assistants often found a general AC company and could not tell whether it did duct replacement, mini-splits or commercial work. They told customers to ask about the specific job.
57% of the answers (17 of 30) brought this up.
It's a general AC company, so ask whether it does full duct replacement.
Does the page say the company comes to Dover?
Assistants searched for a contractor based in Dover or one that named it, and often came up empty. When a page did not mention Dover, they told the customer to ask before booking.
53% of the answers (16 of 30) brought this up.
I couldn't find an installer based in Dover, FL 33527 itself.
Can the customer confirm the license?
Answers told customers to verify the Florida license on the DBPR lookup and ask for proof of liability insurance. For commercial repair, they also asked about each technician’s licensing.
47% of the answers (14 of 30) brought this up.
Ask about dispatch fees, emergency rates, technician licensing, and whether they service your specific rooftop-unit brand.
Can the customer find a phone number that works?
Nearly every Dover answer mentioned phone numbers, usually to say none could be verified. Some sent customers to look numbers up themselves, which adds a step before anyone calls.
40% of the answers (12 of 30) brought this up.
The search results gave me almost no verified phone numbers, so you'll need to look most of them up.
Does the contractor take commercial jobs?
Commercial repair was one of the jobs asked about in Dover. Assistants told customers to ask about rooftop units and for references from similar buildings, such as a restaurant or office.
20% of the answers (6 of 30) brought this up.
Ask for references from similar commercial buildings, such as a restaurant, office or retail space.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 12 of the 30 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 12 of its 12, ChatGPT in 0 of its 12 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 6. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 10 answers
- Reviews it could check: 4 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 12 of its 12 answers about Dover (100%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dover in 4 (33%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 4%.
For any contractor that serves Dover, this is an opening. Assistants often could not confirm that anyone came to Dover, and almost never found a trusted phone number. A page that names the town and gives a working number fills both gaps.
I also didn't find phone numbers I could confirm, so I haven't listed any.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 24 ChatGPT and Claude answers about home services in Dover, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 100% (24 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 42% (10 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 21% (5 answers)
- An official license lookup: 21% (5 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 100% of its 6 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Questions owners ask
Why does the Dover town post only cover HVAC?
Every question asked about Dover in this research was an HVAC question. The lessons still apply to other trades: assistants looked for a page that named Dover and 33527, a working phone number and a license they could check. A plumber, electrician or roofer can answer the same things on a Dover page.
Should my Dover page mention Plant City or Brandon?
Yes, if that is where your crews start. Answers often named contractors in Plant City and Brandon, then asked the customer to confirm the trip to Dover. Saying where you are based and that you take Dover jobs answers that before the call.
Why did AI assistants give so few phone numbers for Dover?
In this small sample, assistants often said the search results showed no number they could verify. Several left numbers out rather than guess and sent customers to look them up. A working number on your Dover page, matching your Google listing, gives them one to use.
Which AI assistants did you test?
ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode. Between October 9 and October 14, 2026, they answered 30 questions about home services in Dover, FL: ChatGPT 12, Claude 12, Google AI Mode 6.
Will these changes guarantee a recommendation?
No. Nobody can promise that. These changes supply what the assistants were looking for in our research. Whether they move recommendations for your business is something to measure after they go live.
How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 30 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between October 9 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dover or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
