The question underneath all of them
“Will an HVAC company from Plant City or Brandon really come out to Dover?” Assistants rarely found an HVAC company based in Dover, turned to Plant City and Brandon instead, and seldom found a phone number to give.
What your Dover HVAC page has to explain
The Dover sample is small, so treat it as a first look. Its answers agree on the main point. Assistants searched for Dover, found little that named it, and turned to Plant City, Brandon, Valrico and Tampa. They did not agree on where 33527 sits. Some called it part of the Brandon area, and others grouped it with Seffner and Plant City.
Phone numbers were the most common gap. Answer after answer said the results showed no number the assistant could verify, so it listed none. A company that serves Dover can fix that on its own page. It should give one working number, name Dover and 33527, and say which town its technicians drive from.
Most questions here were about duct installation, mini-splits, air purifiers and commercial repair. Assistants often found a general AC company and told the customer to ask whether it installs new ductwork or only repairs it. For commercial calls, they said to ask about rooftop units and references from similar buildings. A Dover HVAC page should list the jobs it does there.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 30 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for HVAC work in Dover, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Will a company from Plant City or Brandon come to Dover?
With little that named Dover, most answers turned to companies in Plant City, Brandon and Valrico. Assistants then told customers to ask whether the company would send a technician to Dover itself.
73% of the answers (22 of 30) brought this up.
Its page doesn't name Dover or 33527, so ask whether they have a technician near you today.
Does the company name Dover or 33527?
Assistants looked for a company based in Dover or one that listed it as a service area, and often found none. When a page left Dover out, they told the customer to ask before booking.
53% of the answers (16 of 30) brought this up.
I couldn't confirm that they cover Dover, so ask when you call.
Does the company install new ductwork, or only repair it?
For duct jobs, assistants often found AC companies whose pages covered repair and system installs. They told customers to ask whether the company does full duct replacement or new duct runs.
47% of the answers (14 of 30) brought this up.
Ask whether they install new ductwork or only repair it.
Is the technician licensed and insured?
Answers told customers to verify the license on the Florida DBPR lookup and ask for proof of liability insurance. With few reviews to go on, this was a check the customer could make alone.
47% of the answers (14 of 30) brought this up.
Will the install price be put in writing?
For installs, assistants told customers to get written pricing that named the equipment, the warranty and any filter costs. Some wanted the duct design written down as well.
37% of the answers (11 of 30) brought this up.
Ask for the earliest installation slot, written pricing, filter replacement cost, warranty, and confirmation that the technician is licensed and insured.
Does the company handle the permit?
Several answers told customers to ask whether the company pulls the mechanical permit and whether the quote includes it. Some said the contractor, not the homeowner, should pull it.
33% of the answers (10 of 30) brought this up.
Ask whether they handle permits and whether they offer maintenance plans.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 12 of the 30 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 12 of its 12, ChatGPT in 0 of its 12 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 6. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 10 answers
- Reviews it could check: 4 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 4 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 12 of its 12 answers about Dover (100%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Dover in 4 (33%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 39% and 4% for HVAC.
For a company that serves Dover, this is an opening. Assistants often could not confirm anyone covered Dover, and nearly always lacked a phone number they trusted, so a page naming Dover, 33527 and a working number answers both.
I couldn't find phone numbers for any of these, and my search results were thin, so treat this as a shortlist to check rather than a firm recommendation.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 24 ChatGPT and Claude answers about HVAC work in Dover, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 100% (24 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 42% (10 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 21% (5 answers)
- An official license lookup: 21% (5 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 100% of its 6 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

Why couldn’t AI assistants recommend an HVAC company in Dover, FL?

How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 30 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between October 9 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Dover or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
