  • “I need commercial HVAC repair today — I'm in 33510. Who can actually come out?”2 answers

The other 12 questions asked for other jobs or worded the request differently. All 30 answers were about Brandon, in Hillsborough County (ZIP codes 33510, 33511, 33584, 33594 and 33619). By assistant: ChatGPT 12, Claude 12 and Google AI Mode 6.

The questions covered eight specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Which Brandon HVAC company should I get quotes from, and how do I compare them?” Assistants usually found HVAC companies in or serving Brandon, then told customers to compare itemized written quotes, the labor warranty and the license.

What your Brandon HVAC page has to explain

The Brandon sample is small, so read it as a first look. Even so, assistants rarely said no one served Brandon. They often found a company based in Brandon or with a page naming 33510. When a company sat elsewhere, such as across the bay in Pinellas County, they told customers to ask whether it served Brandon.

The questions were about specific installs and repairs: ductwork, ductless mini-splits, air purifiers, ventilation, thermostats and commercial repair. Assistants told customers to compare quotes line by line. They asked for the equipment brand and model, the labor warranty apart from the manufacturer’s, and whether permits, sealing and airflow testing were included.

For purifiers, answers told customers to ask what the unit removes and the yearly cost of lamps or filters. For mini-splits and ducts, they asked for an in-home visit and proper sizing before a price. A Brandon HVAC page can explain how each of these jobs is quoted.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 12 of the 30 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 12 of its 12, ChatGPT in 0 of its 12 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 6. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 10 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 4 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 12 of its 12 answers about Brandon (100%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Brandon in 2 (17%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 39% and 4% for HVAC.

In Brandon, assistants could usually tell who served the town, but most could not find a phone number they trusted. Several chose to leave numbers out instead of guessing. A Brandon HVAC page with one working number that matches its Google listing fixes the main gap here.

I couldn't find a verified phone number for any of them, so I haven't guessed at one.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for ductless mini-split installation in Brandon, FL 33510?”, October 12, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 24 ChatGPT and Claude answers about HVAC work in Brandon, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 100% (24 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 50% (12 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 21% (5 answers)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 83% of its 6 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Your Brandon HVAC page checklist

Work through this list on your Brandon HVAC page. Each item answers something the assistants looked for above.

  1. Use “Brandon HVAC” in the page title, the main heading and the first paragraph.
  2. Say whether you have a Brandon office, give the address if so, and list 33510 and the other Brandon ZIP codes you serve.
  3. State your labor warranty in plain terms, next to the equipment warranty it adds to.
  4. Describe what your written quote lists for a Brandon install, line by line.
  5. Say that you pull the permit for Brandon installs, who books the inspection, and how long it usually adds.
  6. Put your state HVAC license number on the Brandon page with a DBPR link, and name your insurer.
  7. Explain how you size a Brandon job, and whether a technician visits before you quote.
  8. Say how soon you can usually start a Brandon job, and whether you take same-day commercial calls.
  9. Put one working phone number on the Brandon page, matching the number on your Google listing.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 30 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between October 9 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Brandon or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
