What people actually asked

We asked 18 different questions here between October 9 and October 14, 2026. These are the six asked most, word for word, with how many of the 30 answers each produced:

  • “Air purifier installation near me — I'm in Treasure Island, FL 33706. Who do you recommend?”2 answers
  • “I need commercial HVAC repair within the next few hours — I'm in 33706. Who can actually come out?”2 answers
  • “I'm looking to get duct installation done in 33706 in the next few weeks. Who should I get quotes from?”2 answers
  • “Looking for someone to do air purifier installation in Treasure Island, FL 33706 before the end of the month. Any recommendations?”2 answers
  • “Who should I call for commercial HVAC repair in Treasure Island, FL 33706?”2 answers
  • “Who should I call for ductless mini-split installation in Treasure Island, FL?”2 answers

The other 12 questions asked for other jobs or worded the request differently. All 30 answers were about Treasure Island, in Pinellas County (ZIP codes 33706). By assistant: ChatGPT 12, Claude 12 and Google AI Mode 6.

The questions covered eight specific jobs. The most asked here, each with its own post:

The question underneath all of them

“Will an HVAC company come out to the beach in Treasure Island, and does it do the job I need?” Assistants rarely found an HVAC company based in Treasure Island, so they named St. Petersburg and Pinellas County companies and told customers to ask.

What your Treasure Island HVAC page has to explain

The sample for Treasure Island is small, so read it as a first look. The answers still agree on one point. Assistants searched for Treasure Island, found few HVAC companies that named it, and widened the search to St. Petersburg and other Pinellas County towns. Several said no company they found listed 33706 or the beach towns. A company that does come out here can settle that on its page.

Some answers raised salt air near the water. They said it wears down outdoor units and coils, and told customers to ask about coated coils or a corrosion-resistant model. A Treasure Island HVAC page can say whether the company offers coastal equipment or protection, and how it handles outdoor units close to the water.

The questions here were for specific jobs: commercial repair, new ductwork, ductless mini-splits and air purifiers. Assistants often found an HVAC company but could not tell whether it did that job. They told customers to ask whether it installs ducts, does mini-splits or takes commercial work. The page should list the jobs the company does on the island.

What the assistants couldn’t find

In 12 of the 30 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 12 of its 12, ChatGPT in 0 of its 12 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 6. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:

  • A phone number or other way to reach the company: 9 answers
  • Reviews it could check: 5 answers
  • Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 3 answers

Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 12 of its 12 answers about Treasure Island (100%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Treasure Island in 3 (25%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 39% and 4% for HVAC.

For an HVAC company that works on the island, this is an opening. Assistants often could not confirm that anyone served Treasure Island, and rarely found a phone number they trusted. A page that names Treasure Island and 33706, gives a working number and lists the jobs done here answers both.

I didn't find a contractor that lists 33706 itself.

— Claude, asked “Who should I call for ventilation system installation in 33706?”, October 14, 2026

Where the assistants sent people

Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 24 ChatGPT and Claude answers about HVAC work in Treasure Island, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:

  • A contractor’s own website: 100% (24 answers)
  • A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 25% (6 answers)
  • A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 4% (1 answer)
  • An official license lookup: 4% (1 answer)

A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.

Google AI Mode works differently. In 83% of its 6 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings

For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?

Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.

We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

How we got these numbers

The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 30 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between October 9 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Treasure Island or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.

The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
