The question underneath all of them
“Which Clearwater electrician is properly licensed, pulls the permit and will tell me the price first?” Answers noted which electricians were Clearwater-based, then told customers to check the license, confirm the City of Clearwater or county permit and ask the service-call fee.
What your Clearwater electrical page has to explain
Clearwater is one of the largest towns in this research, and its electrical answers look much like the others. Most questions named 33755, and assistants rarely said no one served Clearwater. They sorted electricians by where they sat, often calling one Clearwater-based or right in the customer’s ZIP code. Where a listing did not mention Clearwater, they told customers to ask.
Permits came up across panel work, subpanels, rewiring and new outdoor circuits. Answers said these jobs often need a permit from the City of Clearwater or Pinellas County, depending on the address. They told customers to confirm the electrician pulls it under their own license. Some warned against anyone who suggests skipping it.
Insurance paperwork mattered for older homes. For aluminum wiring and older panels an insurer has flagged, answers said Florida insurers often ask for proof of the work from a licensed electrician. They told customers to ask what papers the electrician provides. A Clearwater electrical page should say which records the customer gets after these jobs.
What the assistants looked for before recommending anyone
We read all 1,527 answers to see what the assistants looked for before naming a company for electrical work in Clearwater, FL, what they told the customer to ask, and what they said they couldn’t find.
What the assistants told customers to ask
Most common first:
Is the electrician based in Clearwater or the customer’s ZIP code?
Answers often said when an electrician was Clearwater-based or located right in the customer’s ZIP code. When they could not confirm coverage, they told the customer to ask on the call.
37% of the answers (563 of 1,527) brought this up.
I didn't confirm they cover Clearwater specifically, so ask when you call.
Can the customer check the electrical contractor license?

27% of the answers (410 of 1,527) brought this up.
Ask for the Florida electrical contractor license number.
Who files the permit for a Clearwater electrical job?

14% of the answers (217 of 1,527) brought this up.
Confirm they're pulling a Florida electrical permit under their own license number, not a handyman doing it off the books — insurers often ask for the permit record specifically.
Does the quote cover the box, wiring and drywall?
For fans, pendants and fixtures, answers told customers to ask whether the quote includes checking that the ceiling box is fan-rated. For rewiring and new circuits, they asked whether drywall patching is included.

4% of the answers (54 of 1,527) brought this up.
Some Florida insurers require proof of remediation from a licensed electrician, so ask what they'll accept before you pick a method.
What the assistants couldn’t find
In 207 of the 1,527 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 197 of its 524, ChatGPT in 8 of its 634 and Google AI Mode in 2 of its 369. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 115 answers
- Reviews it could check: 46 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 44 answers
- When the company could do the work: 29 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 28 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 24 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 197 of its 524 answers about Clearwater (38%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served Clearwater in 24 (5%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 5% for electrical.
In Clearwater, assistants most often could not find a phone number for an electrician, and next could not verify reviews or licenses. The other large towns showed the same gaps. A Clearwater electrical page can answer them with a working number, links to recent reviews and a license number customers can look up.
I couldn't confirm their phone numbers, so use the contact info on their sites.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 1,158 ChatGPT and Claude answers about electrical work in Clearwater, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 97% (1,122 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 57% (656 answers)
- An official license lookup: 10% (120 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 5% (60 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: 3% (30 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 71% of its 369 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,527 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named Clearwater or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
