What your St. Petersburg roofing page has to explain
St. Petersburg is one of the largest towns in this research, and its roofing answers look much like the others. Assistants seldom said no roofer served the city. Instead they sometimes caught a company listed for St. Pete with a Tampa phone number or an office far away, and told the customer to ask who would do the work locally.
Leaks shaped many of the answers. When water was coming in, assistants told customers to ask who could tarp or patch the roof right away, then return with a written estimate. They also told customers to ask whether the first visit is a temporary fix or the full repair. A St. Pete roofing page should say how it handles an active leak and what the first visit includes.
Insurance came up often too. Assistants told customers to ask for photos and a written damage report for their claim, and some mentioned roof certifications and wind-mitigation forms. They also warned against crews who knock on doors after a storm. The page should describe the report the customer receives and say what the roofer does, and does not do, with a claim.

What the assistants couldn’t find
In 188 of the 1,219 answers, the assistant said it couldn’t find or confirm something it needed about a company. By assistant: Claude in 176 of its 421, ChatGPT in 12 of its 505 and Google AI Mode in 0 of its 293. As we asked it, Claude usually says what it couldn’t confirm; ChatGPT and Google AI Mode seldom do, so these counts mostly show what Claude couldn’t find. Most often:
- A phone number or other way to reach the company: 119 answers
- When the company could do the work: 31 answers
- Reviews it could check: 26 answers
- A license or insurance it could check: 23 answers
- Whether the company serves the customer’s town or ZIP code: 16 answers
- A price or how the job is priced: 9 answers
Compared with the larger towns: Claude said it couldn’t confirm something in 176 of its 421 answers about St. Petersburg (42%), and couldn’t confirm that any company served St. Petersburg in 16 (4%). In the eight largest towns we studied, those figures were 40% and 3% for roofing.
In St. Petersburg, phone numbers were what assistants most often could not find for roofers, and who could come out soon came next. Several left numbers out rather than guess. A St. Pete roofing page answers both with one working number and a plain statement of how fast a crew can reach a leak.
I got this number from a search summary and didn't check it against the company's own site, so confirm it when you call.
Where the assistants sent people
Each answer linked to the pages the assistant relied on. Of the 926 ChatGPT and Claude answers about roofing work in St. Petersburg, FL, this is how many linked at least once to each kind of site:
- A contractor’s own website: 96% (889 answers)
- A directory or review site such as Yelp, Angi or the BBB: 53% (495 answers)
- A manufacturer or home-improvement guide: 11% (102 answers)
- An official license lookup: 10% (96 answers)
- A Google search or Maps page: under 1% (2 answers)
A contractor’s own website was the page linked most often, so your site is usually what the customer is sent to read.
Google AI Mode works differently. In 74% of its 293 answers, the links opened Google’s own listing for a business rather than a website. There, your Google Business Profile is the page the customer sees, so it needs the same facts as your site.

Going further: let assistants see real openings
For an urgent job, “open now” doesn’t answer the customer’s real question: can the right technician get to this address within the next few hours?
Merchant Context builds custom integrations with scheduling software so customers and AI assistants can read your current availability. Where your system records the job type, service area, duration and crew capacity, the integration can show those details with each opening, so an assistant can match it to the request instead of guessing.
We scope each connection to the software and data you actually have. A displayed opening is not a confirmed booking: the customer still confirms through your normal booking process, and the information is only useful while it is fresh.

How we got these numbers
The questions, counts and quotes on this page come from the 1,219 answers ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode gave between September 2 and October 14, 2026. Every question named St. Petersburg or one of its ZIP codes. We collected them with software rather than the consumer apps, which can answer differently. We counted what each answer mentioned, what it said it couldn’t find and where it linked. Quotes never name a business.
The study figures come from an earlier set of assistant conversations in July and August 2026 across eight trades, coded for the reason each business was included or left out. Counts overlap and are never added together.
